MGE (Eaton) Ellipse 600 USBS

What type of socket does it have. I finally managed to find specs and it says for management it has USB and RS-232. It just does not tell which USB socket it has, square or flat. Flat is normally for the host (the ones on the ReadyNAS) and the square is normally for the attached device (as found on hard drives, etc). If it is the square socket then a standard USB cable should work, if the flat then you need a USB cable with two flat connectors.

It appears to filter a single ethernet connection (the top two connectors on the right), and also have an additional RJ45 connector for the control port. I believe there are two custom cables available for the control port, one which adapts it to RS-232, the other adapts it to USB. Some APC UPS also do it this way. The UPS have an RJ-45 Connector to USB, also RJ-45 <-> USB Type A (flat). If you buy a new one ther are two Calbles in the Package one RJ-45 <-> RS-232 and one RJ-45 <-> USB, both Cables are with no logik. It looks like the same as from APC, but APC use a RJ-50 <-> USB with other pins.

Some APC apparently use RJ45 also (http://www.apc.com/resource/include/tec ... sku=AP9827).

The one from APC should work also. Anyone have the Pin-Out for this Cable?

The Prices for a buyed Cable are to many expensive. For the cost of this Cable u can get a new UPS ://

The pinout hits I am googling are mostly for a 10P10C (RJ50).

APC AP9827 is a RJ50 cable. Two additional pins so RJ45 won't work. I have used many APC UPS over the years and I am unfamiliar with a APC signaling cable using RJ45. They either use serial, the now outdated/discontinued RJ50 AP9827, or a conventional A/B USB cable.

Your Eaton unit seems to use a unique cable. The spec sheet claims its a combined USB/serial cable. I would call them and ask for a cable. FYI, if you were a previous fan of MGE single phase UPS (under 10kva), MGE was owned by Schneider Electric up until 2007. Schneider bought APC in 2007 and at the same time sold off MGE single phase products to Eaton. At least in the US, Eaton has done a fairly crap job promoting their consumer/SMB products. They are typically difficult to find and the one time I called their support, I knew the old company was history.

Agreed, the reference to RJ45 in the spec above is apparently an error. As posted above, you can find a couple of posts on the Ellipse 600 cable. Apparently Eaton is not responsive.

Lucifor, please post your results with your hand-built cable.
