ReadyNAS Duo (RND2000 v2) Drive Access

Pulled this out of the cupboard and gave it a dust down and fully reset it, to find out I can not access it using Windows 10/11 due to limitations with web browser.

how can I by pass it?

@claynz

You will have to use an older browser that supports TLS1.0 to access the admin page,  IE11 or an older version of Firefox might help.

Are you having errors accessing data using file explorer? You may have to enable support for SMB1

I have also tried passwords

password

Access to drives are working now after installing SMB1

Does the NAS say

  • ReadyNAS Duo on the front panel?  or
  • ReadyNAS Duo v2 on the front panel?

My bad, I changed the password to abc123, can now access the device.

Current firmware is 4.1.16 [1.00a043] is there a latest update available?

Ok. So you have the original Duo.  That uses a sparc processor, and runs 4.1.x firmware.  The v2 label just means you have hardware revision 2.  This is confusing, because Netgear later released the Duo v2, which uses an Arm processor and runs 5.3.x firmware.

Your Duo is just called the v1 here - and if you google for the manuals, you will see that Netgear also now calls it the v1.

The default password for the admin account for your NAS model is netgear1.  If that isn't working, then you must have set it to something else before you put it away.

You can do an OS reinstall, that will

  • reset the password to netgear1
  • reset the network configuration to use DHCP.

Instructions are on pages 15-16 here:  https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/Duov1_NV+v1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf

Be careful not to do a factory reset (which will destroy your data).

No, that is the final firmware for your Duo.

Note you can adjust the NAS to allow you to use http to connect to the admin page (turning off the redirection to https).  That will let you use any browser.  But the connection is not encrypted.  More information on that is in this thread:

It's fairly typical for a Duo v1.

No worries, I'll leave it transferring over night

Re: ReadyNAS Duo (RND2000 v2) Drive Access

What size drives does this unit support? I am currently running 2x2TB as single drives

2 TB is the max.  Default XRAID would be RAID-1. Are you using FlexRAID (showing a C and a D volume in the web ui)?

Just wanted to follow up on the sluggish transfer speed.

Many 2 TB drives are now SMR.  These can have very slow write speeds - so you might want to confirm that you are using CMR drives.

I believe both of these are CMR - I'm not seeing much on the Seagate, but it is an old enough model (2011) that it should predate use of SMR.

Yes, it's old and not keeping it, transferring over Movies and TV Shows and sold it to a friend for US$185
