WARNING: Hardware Compatibility List has non-compatible models on it

Last night I looked up my ReadyNAS 314 on the Hardware compatibility list and found a new drive to purchase and install.  However Netgear in creating this list obviously does not physically test the drives in an actual NAS.  At least two of the 6T drives listed DO NOT have compatible mounting holes for the plastic quick mount feature, also the bottom mounting holes were you could attach screws only aling with two holes.

Here is a screen capture from the Netgear provided instructions.  It accurately shows the black plastic bracket and tray. This matches my current drive that I was replacing.

Here is a clip of the drive listed on the compatibility list, 6th one down.

And here is a picture of the Physical Drive.

As you can see, unlike the older drive that I have, this "Compatiable" drive only has four mounting holes, one at the front and back of each side, rather than six--the middle one.  The plastic mount sleeve requires the middle and back holes.

So this drive does not PHYSICALLY fit the device.

My question is how do they know it is compatible?  They obviously did not physically test it or they would have discovered the problem.

Yes there are holes ont he bottom, but only two of the four line-up.  I am not an engineer, but I belive you need three points of contact to secure the drive from being able to twist or pivot.

I'm sure they did physically test it. Netgear modified the trays, and the currently shipping ones do have more mount holes on the bottom.  Obviously that change was made after you purchased your NAS.

The only twist/pivot direction left would be vertical, and that is blocked by the tray itself.  There would be a bit less vibration if you had more holes lined up, but it will work ok with only two.

FWIW, I do recommend researching the mounting when you select new drives.  6 TB WDC Reds still have the center side mounting hole, so that would have been an option for you.

I would have happily researched other drives had I know there was misleading infromaton on the compatibility.

As for the newer trays....I asked the Chat Support tech if there were new trays or inserts, and he said they are all the same as mine and have not been changed.  It was the first he had heard that there were drives that have different mounting location.
