Admin Password Doesn't Work for USB readyshare drive
Admin login/password is denied when accessing a hard drive connected to the modem via USB that was read/write protected in routerlogin.net.
If the drive is not protected, no problem accessing via readyshare from local network, and even from Internet!
But the admin login/password don't work if the drive is proteted.
I exhausted all options. Followed manual, restarted, changed password, researched the topic online. Seems to be a bug. Modem is C3000. LaCie 8 TB USB HDD.
Does anyone know a solution? Thanks.

Hi bogdanpavlov,
1. What is the firmware version of the device?
2. Have you tried using another storage device (another external HDD, flash drive)?
3. Have you tried accessing the drive using another device (another computer)?

Hi bogdanpavlov,
I would like to follow up and check if you are still experiencing the issue.

Thank you so much for following up! :)
1. I will look up and confirm!
2. Yes, I have another LaCie drive (different model, lower capacity), but it had the same issue.
3. I did not. I used same computer, but was on a different network (my neighbors).
Essentially the issue is: if I enable password protection for the drive, I can't access it over internet. The little login/password window popps up, but doesn't accept credentials (says they're wrong).
If I am on the home network though - it accepts the credentials (from the same laptop).
However, if password protection is disabled, I can access the drive even from the internet, using my neighbor's network.
I owe you:
1. Firmware version
2. Trying to access the drive using a differnt device
I'm on work trip right now, but will be home over the weekend, and will try again! Thank you for helping me!

I have the exact same problem, I can access folders without password protection enabled, but as soon as i enable password protection read/write I'm unable.
Even if i have password protection on and try to access the folders LOCALLY, i'm unable to because it won't accept my login credentials.
I assume the username should be "admin" and password my Routers login password.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry to Hijack this thread.
I have a video I recorded showing my problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVVpriZnPAg&feature=youtu.be
If I have a folder with "Admin" enabled like shown in the video I can't access it from any device including Netgear genie from my iPhone, even with the correct login info.
If I try accessing it from my iPhone with Netgear genie, I get RED text saying "permission Denied"
I can however access it from the FTP in the browser from my Desktop PC (local machine) with the Router login information.
As shown here: https://youtu.be/V2gZaohceSU
I have also tried my Computer login info when trying to access it locally on my Machine, still didn't work.
I have a Nighthawk R8500 with the latest firmware Firmware Version

Try a shorter password.

I just try the username as "Admin" and the default password (I haven't changed) and resolve this problem
- PhclemInitiateI had the same problem on my R7000, where I had set the admin password using some special characters ($). After several changes, I noticed that the readyshare mapping is rejected if my password contains the $ sign, but works fine if the admin password is "less sophisticated" ! Hope this will help some others ...

Hello,
This work-around works for me when Readyshare won't accept my username/password credentials: Enter only the username "admin" with no password (blank) then submit. Now enter "admin" AND correct password combo and submit. Hope this works for you all.

1058 firmware and can't seem to get readyshare to work properly at all.
Windows can map the USB hard drive and show the storage space.
I can access it through FTP. But something isn't working properly and won't allow me to map network drive on windows 10.
I've tried router credentials and windows credentials when mapping the drive in windows.
I think I'll try an older firmware. I just bought this router and it had 1058 installed.
My previous router was r7000 and network USB drive worked.

Downgrading to 1052 firmware on R9000 allowed me to open USB hard drive folders without password. But, I tried to put a password requirement for root of the drive and I can't open it from windows 10.
Android phone lets me access root with password.
What's going on here?
Router configuration:
Readyshare
\\readyshare\HDD
Steps I take on windows:
map drive
\\readyshare\HDD
router admin and pass I set.
On the phone:
I use MIX app from XDA dev
smb://router ip address
router admin and pass I set.

Same issue, but I don't see any solutions yet. Curious if someone found a workaround.

Eventually got it with registry change:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
CHANGE -----> AllowInsecureGuestAuth from 0 to 1

This does allow the client using a non-authenticated access, so called guest access. How shall this fix the _authenticated_ access using the admin (not as per the subject Admin) username?
