NETGEAR Nighthawk app

I have been using the NETGEAR Nighthawk  app but this morning it requires me to enter an admin password. I have never setup an admin password. Now, I cannot use the app!

Using the app to do what?

Which app? iOS or Android? What version?

Which router? The model number?

What firmware is on it? Apps and firmware are related?

The default password for admin access to a router is "router". It is something you need when you access the browser graphical user interface (GUI).

Re: NETGEAR Nighthawk app

I cannot open the app to do anything.  The app is on my iPhone 14 Pro using iOS 14.2. The router is a: Nighthawk AX-5 Stream AX 4200 Wi-Fi Router (RAX42) model number: 6M21157MA3256. I cannot determine what firmware the router is using because I cannot access it.  I have tried using the password "router" and the default password of "password" listed on the app requiring the password. I even tried the password for accessing the router to access it when pairing a device with it and the password for my NETGEAR page. I bought this router on 9/3/2022 and have been using the NETGEAR Nighthawk app with no problems until the other day there was a 1 posted on the app's icon showing I had a message. That is when I could no longer open and use the app. Also, the app is asking for an "admin" password. I have never setup a password for the username "admin".

The model number is RAX42. The rest is the serial number and shouldn't be shared in this way.

Before you can use the app, you have to connect it to the wifi from the router. I can't tell if you have got this far.

Also, the app is asking for an "admin" password. I have never setup a password for the username "admin".

That's as it should be. You may not have set up that password, but it is built into the router.

It is how you access the GUI. If you haven't changed it, that password is, as I have said a few times, password

After you have done that, the first time you use the app it may ask you for the login credentials. That's the admin + password move. That is the same credentials as you use to access the router with a browser.

You cannot change the admin bit.

After the first login, it should remember the password.

I cannot determine what firmware the router is using because I cannot access it.

You should be able to get the firmware version from the browser graphical user interface (GUI).

If you can't get into the GUI with a browser, that may explain why the app can't get in either.

....

other day there was a 1 posted on the app's icon showing I had a message.

I don't understand that.
