Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
I have stopped using Netgear genie and Netgear's router. They have never cared about correcting the problem

Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
I have an iMac running OS X El Capitan. When I try to download NetGear Genie, I am alerted that this is unknown software. I realize that I can override the warning, but I hesitate to do so after reading the problems users are having running the Genie on their desktop Macs.
Can someone give me an update on whether the Genie is working well, or not?
Also, why doesn't the rep from NetGear post a public answer, rather than directing the questioner to a private message? A public answer could be useful to many of us, I would think.

Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
Hi @FRANKORFANELLO,
1. What macOS version are you using?
2. What version of Genie do you have installed?
3. Please try uninstalling and re-installing the app.

Dexter

Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
The fix proposed by the other thread (renaming libGeniePlugin_MyMedia.dylib) worked for me...
The Netgear support team worked actively for quite some time on this case. They were very pro-active in trying to find a solution. However, they were not able to reproduce the problem. They suggested I re-install my Mac from scratch...
I don't use the 'Media' part of the router... so I didn't mind disabling the above mentioned plugin. It solved my problem.

Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
llalonde, thanks for the reply.
So the problem iappears to be in the "libGeniePlugin_MyMedia.dylib" module, and the solution is to simply disable that function?
I guess I'll try that and report back, until Netgear fixes the problem.

Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
I have the problem as well, running version 2.4.22, installed yesterday. After telling it to quit and then assuming it would (despite siginficant evidence to the contrary yesterday), I discovered it running away with my CPU several minutes later. This runaway process also seems to somehow be using a large amount of bandwidth at the same time. It appears to have been almost two years since this problem first showed up (and disabling a feature on the router isn't an answer).

Re: Netgear Genie unusable on Mac
I have a netgear ex 7000 extender. I have had trouble getting my Mac computers to airprint to my MFC7840W. Your office has helped me via a telephone call but now once I load Netgear Genie it crashes and I get a screen that says "Netgear Genie Quit Unexpectantly.
It was working until today.
