So yeah, I noticed my R7000P never notices firmware updates, even when you tell it to check, it just says "no updates available", then I go look and sure enough, there is one. Is this a known issue? Is there anything that can be done?

I've seen it a lot on the forums with the R7000 and R7000P.
I wouldn't use auto-update regardless. Auto-update, updates over wifi, and updates via the app tend to be where we see the most corrupt firmware issues.
