New - R7900P/R7960P/R8000P Firmware Version 1.4.4.94 Released

Unfortunately NG didn't put forth a beta for the R7900P since it went EoL service. Only thing that you can do is to revert back to an older version of FW that works or find some 3rd party FW like DD-WRT or OpenWRT FW to put on the R7900P.

Good Luck.

Can I get the beta?  On a R7900P

Remember, there can be a big difference between the R7900 and the R7900P, the one you say you own. These variants can have completely different chips inside.

Whatever you do, do not try to install P firmware on the other version, and vice versa. You could end up with a dead router.

Re: New - R7900P/R7960P/R8000P Firmware Version 1.4.4.94 Released

Like many others I've got a R8000P with the MAC address issue. I'm betting they aren't handling the colon's in the string properly. Complete amateur hour that it's been over a year and no attempt to fix it other than some guy on a forum supplying a clearly dodgy beta file link since it's all by PM.

Think I'll just cut my losses, sell this on eBay and get a decent router.

I agree that this is an odd way for Netgear to go about things, but I think you can rely on the beta firmware on offer. It may not be from a staff person, but it is often seems like it.

Re: New - R7900P/R7960P/R8000P Firmware Version 1.4.4.94 Released

I get the forum user is just trying to help others out but it's a completely bizarre way of doing things. Have Netgear even acknowledged the issue? Or since it's EOL have they just washed their hands of it and left everyone with a broken basic function of a router? Not being able to set a fixed address on your own LAN because Netgear can't parse a MAC address out of a string is completely mental. It worked in an older firmware, the bug is repeatable and it would take about 1 minute to fix it. The fact they haven't bothered to fix it speaks volumes for me.

The beta does fix the problem users have seen. The beta comes from NG direct. I'm just a messenger.

Good Luck.

Agreed. And the answer you got from them magically fails to deal with your other issues. The sort of information-free response you would expect from a staffer.

You are right to be suspicious about people you don't know passing off dubious firmware. But if you download and inspect the beta firmware you may be able to track it back to Netgear.

Your earlier threat to sell this thing on eBay is a bit naughty. Not good to dump something you know to be defective.

Then again, your R8000P is a couple of generations behind modern router technology, 2017 with its origins in 2015. So you may not get many takers.

Just use it as an excuse to move yourself into the 2020s.

I would like the beta FW version that fixes the IP address reservation issue.

Getting old fixing the port forwarding IP after every reboot.

R7960

Thank you

What version is the beta for the R7960p?
Can you share a link to it?

Others with the R8000 router have an alternative to the Netgear firmware, they can use DD-WRT as the router is compatible… unfortunately myself by having the R7960p cannot flash the custom firmware… 😞

Because most us guys know nothing about this.

This is essentially a user-to-user forum, with some input from a small band of Netgear techies. You can try the official channels for support.
