Problem updating firmware on Nighthawk X4S AC2600 R7800
I'm using my Nighthawk X4S AC2600 R7800 router as a network extender so I have it connected to my main router via a Cat 6 cable plugged into one of the LAN ports.
The firmware is an old version bujt when I go to ujpgrade it I get a message saying the router needs to connected to the internet. It is looking for a connection to the WAN port. I then diconccected both the Nighthawk router and my main Vodafone router and plugged the main line into the WAN on the Nighthawk so it would be directly connected to the internet but the internet LED remained orange. I left it plugged in for over 30 minutes but it would not connect to the internet. When I pluggen the Vofafone router back in it picked up the internet in less than a minute.
Is there a way that I can upgrade the firmware without having the Nighthawk router connected via the WAN port?
Yes, you can manually update it.
First download the firmware from the support site and extract it.
Then, select ADVANCED > Administration > Firmware Update
there will be a browse option. browse to where you extracted the firmware and select the file. then upload it.
don't interrupt it while it uploads.
