I think I will just try hooking it up to my MacBook Pro with an ethernet cable to see if it recognizes it.
Wired is always best. Less chance of a failure when the wifi goes down. Not that that would ever happen!

Re: R6700 Firmware update kills router
I successfully flashed the previous firmware, set up my network and everything seemed to be working with the exception of one site I have that is ipv6 only which only works part time. This seems to be a Netgear firewall issue that they won't fix, something about filtering ICMP I think. After a couple browsing sessions without losing internet access and because rolling back the firmware went smoothly, I went ahead and had the router update to the newest version. I have not noticed any problems as of yet, so hoping my issue was just a glitch in the previous update somewhere.

Sad to say the dropouts have continued; sometimes just the 5GHz wireless and at other times worse with the complete disconnect of internet. I have messed with this for the last time, will use my old Apple Time Capsule.
