R7000 suddenly not working with Ecobee
i have a R7000 Nighthawk for over 4 years and an Ecobee smart thermostat that has been connected for over 2 years and suddenly, it connects to router but it won't connect to ecobee server. Ecobee support says router is blocking connection. called Netgear support and they stated the reason it won't connect is that security subscription expired and that i need to renew subscription for the 2.4 GH to work, but everything else is still working. they stated that more devices will start to lose connection if i didn't renew security subscription. this didn't sound right that i buy a router and it work for 4 years and then have to pay a fee to continue to use it. Netgear support stated to me that all router companies are now doing this, is this a scam or is the way things work now? thanks in advance.

Re: R7000 suddenly not working with Ecobee
If it has been working with the R7000, something may have change at the ISP level or Eecobee level. Doesn't mean the NH router did something unless someone changed something on the router.
Had you been using Smart Parental controls or Armor?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.
Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router and satellite(s) been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. https://kb.netgear.com/22697/How-do-I-install-my-NETGEAR-router-using-the-router-web-interface
Make contact with Ecobee regarding there product for help and information as well.

That sounds like you called a number you found in a web search.
Google is happy to sell ad space to any crook that pays up. This is rarely anything to do with Netgear. Talk of paying for an additional service is a giveaway.
Netgear warns about these scams.
How do I identify an official NETGEAR website or social media account? - NETGEAR Support

Bilge. You are right to be suspicious.
Once you have bought the router there is no need to subscribe to anything to keep it on the road. There are various paid for services, but if you have never used them this isn't the reason for the problems you see.
Your R7000 predates all of those services. Netgear had to write new firmware to get them to work.
Just another user with time on their hands.
