Update not going through

Have had ongoing issues with updates. They will get stuck on the updating firmware screen for hours.  How do I bypass the update to get WiFi going again?

Manually download the update. Unzip it and load it in http://routerlogin.net or http://192.168.1.1

What firmware is on it? 

what error are you getting?

Are you manually updating or doing it using the automatic system.
