two R7450 have different speeds
I have 2 identical R7450 wifi radios that if a device connects to one or the other it gets different speeds
On one the speed is only about 1/3 than on the other radio
any idea anyone what might be the reason ?

Re: two R7450 have different speeds
What firmware version do you have on the devices?
A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.
Are you testing with the same Wifi clients on the same network and with the same test site?

Re: two R7450 have different speeds
fimware on both is V1.2.0.92 _1.0.1
The modem is a Spectrum EU2251
the router is a TP-Link ER 605 V2
both nighthawks are set to "AP" mode (router disabled)
.
speed test are done with the same device on the same network with the same test site (Ookla)

Re: two R7450 have different speeds
are you disabling smart connect so you can specify what band to connect to?
To many times I've seen smart connect on and people connecting to the 2.4ghz when its a slower network.
Also, what channels are you using because you're running 3x routers. The 2x R7450's and the one other.
Could be you're causing interference on one of them thats slowing things down too.

Re: two R7450 have different speeds
smart connect is disabled .. and yes .. I specify
the 2 R7450 are "radio" only (AP mode) ... router is disables
the ER605 is the router
they are also set to different channels .. so they do not interfere

Re: two R7450 have different speeds
but you didn't specify if you were testing over 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
2.4ghz is a slow network and 1/3 the speed of a 5ghz would be considered fast for 2.4ghz.
Also, try swapping the 2x R7450's 5ghz bands. The lower 5ghz channels are low powered channels and will drop of speed quicker than the higher 5ghz channels. It might just be the fall off from the lower to the higher bands you're seeing.
