ORBI RBS50Y-EXT not showing as a satellite in the network map

Hello all,

I have just purchased an Orbi RBR50 with matching satellite. I decided to add to this set-up by purchasing an Orbi RBS50Y-EXT outdoor extender to increase our coverage.

I set it up as outdoor extending the network as per the instructions.

The question I pose to you is this: why does the extender not show up on the network map as an addtional satellite? It appears as one of 8 connected devices e.g. like my iPhone, Mac, printer etc. Is this correct perhaps as it is technically not a 'satellite' but a connected device 'extending' the range of the network?

But is this not what the other 'satellite' also does? I'm slightly confused. Have I configured it incorrectly?

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks - Winco

What firmware are you running in the RBR50?

It should appear in the satellite list, but I have seen satellites show up as devices from time to time in the router UI.  You can access the satellite directly by browsing to it's IP address and that will show you if it is connected to the Orbi backhaul.

You could also try powering down the new satellite, rebooting your orbi system, and then powering it up again.  That might result in the router putting the satellite in the right place.

Thanks Stephen for the reply. I'm using the latest firmware.

I'll try your suggestion and report back.

Actually before I attempt to access the satellite directly by browsing to it's IP address, I should ask how do I do this?

Hello Winco - You can view the satellite's IP address by logging into the router's UI and taking a look at the satellite list for the IP address of the respective satellite.
