Nighthawk Router not connecting to HP printer

Got my new Netgear router set up couple weeks ago but one problem. I have a HP 4500 series printer and I cannot get it set up with Netgear router.  I've researched online and apparently connecting a HP printer has been an issue for several years. Does anyone have information on connecting my printer to Netgear R7000 (AC1900)?

Are you connecting via wireless or ethernet (or USB)?  You have to set up the printer on your computer (windows) first.

Connecting via wireless and I only have Apple products so no windows to set up. Before installing the Netgear I had no problems printing with iPhone and iPad Pro. I have a chromebook for preparing taxes for AARP Taxaide but not for personal use. It connected with previous router as well without having to set it up.

"cannot" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Thanks for the helpful links.  "online" is a very big place.

I'd bet that HP does.  Start at "hp.com".

   Firmware version?  Connected to what?

Not a router. Nothing to do with anything?

> [...] Before installing the Netgear [...]

What did you use then?  Did the R7000 replace something, or did you
add the R7000 to some existing arrangement, or what?

"it"?  Printer?  Chromebook?  Other?  How do you connect _any_ device
to your wireless network "without having to set it up"?  Have you no
security at all?

Re: Nighthawk Router not connecting to HP printer

Ok I had a TP-Link router before that printer was connected to. The Chromebook automatically connected to the old router. My iPhone and iPad Pro were set up and connected to the old router.
The HP Envy 4500 series was working just fine and don’t want to replace unless I can’t connect with Netgear router. I have downloaded the HP Smart app and no luck with that either.

Thanks for that detailed description.  Is it gone now?

I don't know what "automatically connected" means to you.

   What happens with the R7000?

Please consider answering the pending questions.  Look for "?",
above.

Did you do anything with it after you downloaded it?  Regarding "no
luck", see "not a useful problem description [...]", above. Did you
find the manual for your printer there?  Did you read it?

If the R7000 has replaced some (unspecified) "a TP-Link router", then
did you configure its wireless security stuff (SSID(s), passphrase(s))
the same as with the previous router?  Was the old router also
dual-band?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Beyond the
basic set-up instructions, look for the LED descriptions and
"Troubleshoot"?

Re: Nighthawk Router not connecting to HP printer

The usual way to fix wifi printers is to find the printer maker's utility, the software that runs on your operating system. Then use that to connect the printer to the wifi.

The router just broadcasts wifi. It is then down to the printer to play ball. There isn't much that you can do on a router, beyond fixing it to a particular IP address, that affects what the printer gets up to.

Where possible, using the WPS feature can simplify things.

Then there is this:

Installing HP wireless printer software | Wireless Printing Center | HP® United Kingdom

Glad that WPS worked. Thanks for confirming that that bit of my suggestion was the one that did it for you.

WPS is great when it works, but it fails for too many users.
