nighthawk r9000 expanding network
I have 2 nightwawk x10 ad 7200 r9000 routers
I need to expand the coverage and improve a couple of blackspots.
A mesh solution seems the best current option.
Can I add new gear to my current routers to achieve that. Which in the current line up is compatible.
Is a mesh arrangement feasible with the r9000 routers
The 2 routers work well and have no problems. If possible I would like to keep using them.
Or do I have to ditch them and start again (not something I want to do if I can avoid it)
If I cannot have mesh I will probably go with just expanding the network. It will depend on cost.

Not really. Mesh requires the router to manage connections in a way that is not compatible with how the R9000 works.
I assume that one of your R9000s is in access point (AP) mode. You already have a slightly messy network, nothing wrong with that if it suits your needs. You can always add a mesh system also in AP mode, but they won't play nicely with the existing devices.

Re: nighthawk r9000 expanding network
I have an R9000 paired with an EX8000 tri-band range extender. Works great. Easy to set up. Both use the same network name and credentials, and handoffs between them is seamless.
