Nighthawk RAXE500 Workgroup Setting?

Hi,

Is there any way to change the WORKGROUP name on the AXE11000/RAXE5000?

I'm on firmware version 1.2.13.100_2.0.54 and it doesn't seem to be able to be changed on the setting page. It just reverts to whatever the router is named.

Advanced>USB Functions>ReadSHARE Storage>Advanced Settings>Workgroup

thanks!

What are you trying to achieve with this workgroup name?

This isn't something that is down to the router. You router joins and manages whatever network you connect to. If you are on a Windows network, the default name there is workgroup.

Does this mean that you have problems when you try to connect a USB storage device to your network through the router?

If so, start there and forget about the router. You may have to tweak some things on Windows. Hard to tell without more details of what you are trying to do and what happens.

Your network workgroup name is not part of the router configuration settings.

The workgroup name is a creature of Windows.

Good detailed information about changing the workgroup name can be found here:

Re: Nighthawk RAXE500 Workgroup Setting?

The RAXE500 has a setting in its admin page to name the workgroup--in the router settings.

Located here on the router:

Advanced>USB Functions>ReadSHARE Storage>Advanced Settings>Workgroup.

But there is no way to save any changes on that page. The router names the workgroup as the name of your router.

This has caused issues with trying to backup for local computers to a USB drive connected to this router.

I have two other Nighthawk routers NOT RAXE500 with a workgroup setting in the router settings--NOT in Windows, which you can set to workgroup/domain of my choosing on my local network. They work perfectly with being able to see a connected USB drive across my local network.

The RAXE500 has been an absolute horror show from the second I plugged it in and I just returned it. I thought someone else might have noticed this issue too.

Thanks for trying to help!

I think you will find that that is a Windows network thing. It is telling you that the ReadSHARE Storage is on the Workgroup network.

That setting is not allowing you to change the name of your network. It is showing you the networks that are available to you to pick from.

Change that in Windows , or whatever you are using, and ReadSHARE should give other options.

I'm able to set the workgroup on mine to something different:

Re: Nighthawk RAXE500 Workgroup Setting?

I guess I'm not being clear; NOT a Window's thing!! I've set up lots of networks and what-not, it's most likely a bug.

Just thought maybe someone encountered this specific issue on this specific firmware.

Probably related, maybe, to the language text changing to a random foreign one when I log into the admin page every few log-ins. Very bizarre.

The RAXE500 router is out of my life now. Good luck to anyone else.
