Bug? Missing clients on attached devices list

Have an RBK752 system, now on v4.6.8.5 (has happened on previous versions as well).  I usually do not see a full accounting of all the devices on my network.  I often do not find devices I know are connected listed in the router attached devices list.  And, I often do not find devices that are listed in a satellites' connection list also shown in the router list.

I believe I've seen this is pretty much every Orbi hardware and firmware I've used (I had the previous Orbi system as well).  Is this a known bug they just won't fix?

Thanks.

1. Is Orbi set in Router or AP Mode?

2. Do you use Parental Control in Orbi?

3. What type of devices do youusually see missing in the Attched Devices list?

Re: Bug? Missing clients on attached devices list

AP Mode, No parental controls or anything other than basic AP services.

For instance, I'll see a Ring doorbell on a satellite, and no entry on the router attached list.  Lots of entries on the Satellites attach list are missing IPs.  I see "Wired" connections listed on the router, but not all of them that are up and running.

To me, basically the connection accounting and reporting is way broken, missing entries (not a good security posture), less reliable than past firmware releases (which had problems too, just not as bad).

The responsibility for creating and maintaining the ARP table is on the router (which is not Orbi in your case when Orbi is in AP Mode). The device list that you see in now Orbi (in AP Mode) is just for information and Orbi does that by doing ARP broadcasts and updates, and then gets a "best-effort" ARP table (attached devide list) that is -usually- not comprehensive.

Only in Router Mode, Orbi will do a full and relaible attached device list.

That's pretty stunning.  Other APs I've used can actually keep track of what clients are connected.  Cannot believe that would be considered proper behavior.
