Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
I've had this router for over a year now, and I've always had minor issues with it rebooting on it's own. The entire thing goes down, including my ethernet to my computer. But for the past few months it has just gotten gradually worse to the point where every few hours or so it will constantly go down then up all within 5 or so minutes at a time, but then working again for around 5 hours uninterrupted. I've tried so many things. First I tried all kinds of settings combinations that I found online. Nothing. Then I tried rolling back 2 or 3 versions of firmware. Nothing. Then I tried to isolate the device, unplugging the satelite, and changing the SSID so no other devices except my ethernet linked computer and modem were connected. I'm about at the point of giving up and settling on it's either hardware defective (and out of warranty so I'm screwed) or it's incompatible with my particular SB6141 and Comcast/Xfinity setup. I have found others mentions of similar issues. I really don't want to throw in the towel but I really can't take it anymore.
Debugging info is incredibly cryptic for me but there is an ever present kernal panic data here (I can't figure out if debugging ever clears this out or if this is old info, but it's always there even when I stop debugging then reinitialize):

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
You mention manually loading various firmware.
Have you done a "Factory Reset" after updating firmware?

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
You can try Voxels FW for Orbi:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Voxels-FW-available-for-50-series-Orbi-only-available/m-p/1883...
You can revert back to stock FW if it doesn't work out for you.
@pseizure2000 wrote:Yeah sorry I forgot to type this up the second time after it rebooted again and I lost everything I wrote 😕
Yep I've factory reset a few times. Even a 30-30-30 reset. Once it rebooted within minutes of the reset.

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
Thanks, I may try this if my next hail mary doesn't work. I'm gonna take it to my mother's this weekend. They have terrible coverage there, but importantly a different modem and ISP. If the issue is with my home setup, it'll definitely show there. For the time being I'm using old reliable (an TP-Link Archer C9) for my router, it's as stable as the Egyptian pyramids. I only switched to this because my new house is a 2 story 110 yr old with plaster and mesh and a shotgun style building so super long and narrow but only 1888 sqft. I can stomach an investment into a new modem if I need to. The old SB6141 was great but I think it has reached the max limits of my current broadband plan.

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
Yes would be a good test to see if the system works at a different location.
Ya, maybe time for a new modem at some point.
Keep us posted.

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
Currently v2.5.1.32 but the problem has been happening with any FW version I have tried. I had not been using the orbi for a year or so because of all the problems but my other router died so I am trying to get it to work. The latest firmware was manually installed via ethernet onto router and satellite with factory reset of both after installation.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? Spectrum E31U2V1 modem
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode? Router mode
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? 1800 sq ft main floor with basement (not included in sq ft size)
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 34 feet
30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Has been manually set to 1 and 40
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many? 3 neighbors nearby
Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings These have been enabled with the issues happening.
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 - All have been disabled with issues happening
Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. How do you accomplish this? On the interface the box is either checked or unchecked. I see no option to select 20 or 40.
Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Have tried before with no resoluton.
I don't pretend to understand the debug files but things which look off in the debug files are
frequent DNI kernel panics

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
I would make contact with NG support and reference the error that your seeing the the bug log.
You may have a bad system if yours has not worked at all on any FW version.

Re: Orbi RBR50 nearly constant reboots
Yes sorry for the long hiatus. Covid year has removed a lot of motivation in life for me but I finally broke down and bought a new MB8600 modem. And it's only been two days but so far it's looking like the combo of Comcast/Xfinity and the SB6141 and the RBR50 is the culprit, if not just the SB6141, as previously I would see daily reboots, I've seen nothing but stability (except for the ironic outage from Comcast a couple hours after upgrading the router and back to the Orbi). I will continue to monitor for issues but everything looking solid so far.
