Orbi loses connection

Recently got an Orbi and everyday for the past week I will drop internet connection on my hardwired and wireless devices. I will then have to go and power it off and back on again, wait a few minutes, then it works again. Sometimes it will go out again minutes later and other it will work the rest of the night until the next day.

Someone please help or tell me if you have any tips to help. I’ve seen many others complain of issues like these and it’s unfortunate for how much they cost.

Re: Orbi loses connection

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Re: Orbi loses connection

The modem is a Hitron model E31N2V1 from Spectrum.
The Orbi is in router mode.
3000 sq ft home and 30 feet away from the other satellite. They are connected fine and I don’t believe that is the issue.

I have already tried all of your other suggestions and a factory reset.

The issue only arises when I am playing call of duty on my Xbox one which is hardwired to the router. I tried using the Xbox over WiFi to see if that helped but the internet would still go out a couple of times over a 4 hour time period. There are not many devices connected over wireless and only one other pc connected with Ethernet that was not being used while the incidents occurred.

The only way to get the internet back online is either restarting the router or disconnecting the modem from the Orbi.

Thanks for trying to help!

Re: Orbi loses connection

Try updating FW on the RBS and RBR to v16:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/RBR50-RBS50-Firmware-2-5-1-16-Update/m-p/1897955/highlight/tru...

First manually download the RBS and RBR FW files from here.

http://kb.netgear.com/en_US/000061838/

Unpack the FW from the .zip files.

Use a wired PC for this process. Safari(Mac), IE11(Windows), Firefox or Opera browsers are recommended.

Log into the RBSs web page and send the FW file there first.

Then send the RBR FW file lastly.

Factory reset the RBS and RBR and setup from scratch. After makeing sure the system works after setting up, be sure to make a backup configuration to file for safe keeping. This saves time if a reset is needed again.

You can try Voxels FW for Orbi:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Voxels-FW-available-for-50-series-Orbi-only-available/m-p/1883...
You can revert back to stock FW if it doesn't work out for you.

See various posts with orbi problems connected to that model Ubee modem. Possible this is a modem/ISP service issue.

Re: Orbi loses connection

I played around with settings and followed your recommendations. Unfortunately, it’s still the same. But since you mentioned issues with the modem I did look into that further and I am convinced the issue is with the modem.

Those Puma chips are awful and I’ve seen many people with the same issue especially when doing intensive data tasks and gaming.

Before I go out and buy a new modem, do you know of any modems that have issues with the orbis? Or can you recommend ones that work the best and I will check if my ISP (Spectrum) will allow me to activate it?

Thank you again.

Re: Orbi loses connection

Check with Spectrum to see if NGs CM1000/CM1100 will work on there network.

Or see if Arris SB6183/SB8200 or Motrola MB7420/MB8600 are supported.

Yes Intel is know for these bad chip sets:
