I have an Orbi RB50 hardwired to my Xfinity modem via an ethernet switch with one wirelessly connected Orbi satellite. I have had an intermittent issue for years where wifi network wlll stop working and the Orbi base will have the magenta LED ring. The issue always appears overnight. This issue can be resolved by unplugging and replugging the ethernet switch (Netgear GS108). Sometimes it goes months without occuring, but sometimes it happens several times in a week. Before I power cycle the switch it will have the green port lights blinking in unision, rather than some solid and some flickering randomly per usual.
While annoying, power cycling the ethernet is easy enough to do. However, when I am away it is beyond what members of the household can do. I'd like to get the system functioning more consistently once and for all.
Does anyone else have any experience or issues with this ethernet switch?
Is there a reccomended switch that plays nice with the Orbi?
Is there another issue I am missing (Orbi setting, something on my network, modem side issue)?
What Firmware version is currently loaded? What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too? Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?
Directly connect the Orbi base to the ISP modem to test with out the switch in the middle to see if anything changes. Possible bad switch, however I doubt it.
CAT is recomended LAN cable type between the modem orbi RBR and all other wired devices.
Current router firmware version is 2.3.5.30. I'm not sure if this automatically updates, but I can check for updates if that is advised?
The modern is a Cisco DPC3941T (Xfinity XB3)
Orbe system is operating in Router mode
I have previously tested the setup without the switch and it seems to work fine. Again though, the problem only occurs intermittently and sometimes infrequently.
The Xfinity router is currently in Router mode. When I first set the system up, I tried it in Bridge mode and my setup didn't work at all. I forget what the specific issues were but I can test it again. I will also try some of the other approaches and report back on how it goes.
Try bridge mode on the modem again. Be sure to apply the setting and let the modem reboot. You may want to power OFF both modem and RBR for 30 seconds, then back on with the modem then the RBR. The RBR should connect.
