Just talked to support and they tell me I have to purchase a plan to continue using my router. Is this correct?

Re: Subscription

Netgear provides 90 days of "complimentary support" with the purchase of a new Orbi system.  After that, users can purchase support from a subsidiary called Gear Head: http://gearhead.netgear.com/

I joined this community forum because (a) I am a nerd who values puzzles over my time, and (b) I am "sort of too cheap" to pay for anything.  There are some amazing folks who watch the Netgear community forums and have been able to solve a lot of problems.  All of mine, for sure.  On the other hand, if my salary or income depended on "make this work NOW", I would sign up in a heatbeat.

Re: Subscription

Perhaps I misunderstood him.  I did not want support, he explained taht after 18 months my router needed a payemnt to contimue working.  He never said anything about paying for support.  My internt connection quit working suddenly.  I purchased 2 new Orbi routers that are doing the same thing.  A netgear router I had works great.  Has to be something to do with the Orbi routers. 1 Orbi 34 and 2 Orbi  RBR 50's all do the same thing Netgfear router connects to the internrt just fine.  same cables etc.

This is nonsense.  (Stronger works come to mind involving bovine male excrement.)

If this contact was discovered by searching the internet for "Netgear support" or something, it may not have been Netgear on the phone.

Please open a new thread explaining the issue and I am certain folks will come up with ideas.

Re: Subscription

It was netgear called the number on their web site.  The issue, I had a Orbi router for a year and a half, worked great.  One day it quit allowing internet access.  Bought a Netgear Router for temporary access and ordered a new Orbi hooked it up same problem.  Went back to Netgear router worked fine.  Got a replacement Orbi, same problem.  Same cables, modem, etc.  as the netgear hooked the netgear back up works fine.  Need the Orbi for remote repeaters I already own.  So the only thing not working is Orbi routers.

Re: Subscription

Perhaps the Netgear tech looked you up in the database, saw the 18month old router and said, "your 90 days are up. you need to contact GearHead and pay them if you want to talk to someone."  Once the NEW Orbi is registered, you get 90 days of support on it.

Really? Many people complain that it is impossible to find a number for Netgear. All contact starts through the support portal MyNetgear.

Where are you and what website was this?

Sadly, it is all too easy for scam merchants to create websites that claim to be Netgear support but that are no such thing. Those sites then show up in web searches. Using those numbers can be dangerous for your bank balance and for the health of your network.
