Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

Got a new Orbi 770 Mesh Network with 3 Satellites.  The output of the wired 2.5 GB ports is around 100Mbs. Received a replacement router from Netgear.  Same problem. My router speed tests from the Orbi app yield about 1.4 Gbs. I am at a loss. I spent hours on the phone with Netgear. Any suggestions

Re: Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

What wired devices are you connecting to the RBR unit? Brand and model.

Does this happen with any ethernet device?

Ensure the devices are connecting at 1000Mpbs to the back of the RBR. Check this by logging into the RBRs web page and navigate to the Advanced tab then select Show stats. Look at the LAN ports listed here and see what the connection rate is seen here with the device connected to the LAN ports.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

Details are important.  "just under 100Mbps", such as 92Mbps or 94Mbps is often a sign that the Orbi LAN port and device Ethernet port have negotiated a speed of 100Mbps/Full Duplex.  "just over 100Mbps", such as 102Mbps are an indication that this is not the problem.

@FURRYe38 's advice to check the Show Statistics information is the correct first step.

Re: Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

I have tried  my Imac and and numerous 1 gb Apple tvs, plugged directly into the router,  The wan shows 2500 full and the lan ports show 1000 full.

I have the lastest firmware juts released in the last few days installed.  I have tried it with Armour on and off.

This is for nighthawk but works the same on orbi and will display those ethernet connections

Check with the wired PC connected to the ISP modem, what do you see there?

Re: Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

I am using an Netgear Nighthawk CM 2000 cable modem for Comcast 1.2 Gbs service.  The Orbi app speed test showw the modem is delivering 1.4 Gbs to the router.

Re: Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

Just check with a PC connected to the back of the CM modem.
Then also speed test with Ooklas installable speed test app installed on the PC.

Try a different PC to compare results.

Re: Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

Wow. I would be on the phone to Netgear as well.

To recap:

Netgear CM2000 Cable modem, connected to

Orbi RBE771 Router WAN port.  Show Statistics reports connection as 2500M/Full

Orbi RBE771 Router.  Ookla Speed Test reports 1.4G

Orbi RBE771 Router LAN port. Show Statistics reports connection as 1000M/Full (because whatever is connected to this port has a gigabit Ethernet port not capable of any higher speed)

Device*** Ethernet Port.  Ookla Speed Test (web site or application?) report varying speeds from 86Mbps to 256Mbps.

More than one cable has been used for the Orbi to device connection.

More than one Router LAN port has been used.

*** Devices tested include iMac and Apple TV, all using Ookla web site or Ookla app.

One common suggestion is to temporarily connect the test device (iMac) directly to the CM2000 modem, which removes the Orbi from the situation.  It is not entirely clear (to me) if this step was done.  (I often get tangled up in long discussions.)

Another suggestion is to document which specific Ookla server is being used for each test. Ookla has (literally) hundreds of servers around the world and it is not entirely clear how their software decides which to use for a specific test.

When plugged in to the cable modem I get about 940 Mbs.

Re: Slow Wired Speeds for Orbi 770

So trying a factory reset and setup from scratch with a ethernet connected PC only, don't enable any Armor, IPv6, Access Controls, or Traffic meter. Power cycling the CM modem OFF for 1 minute then back on then after the RBR is setup again, speed testing with Ooklas installable speed test app, does the speed still result in being slow?

Recommend using this to walk thru the reset process:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-WIFI-6-AX-AND-Wi-Fi-6E-AXE/Procedure-for-Factory-reset-of-RBS8...

Soon after the system is setup, run the speed test.

Let us know if the issue remains.
