RBR50 Router

Hello All. Trying to update the firmware on my Orbi router. Working on a manual update. When I attach the .img file, click upload, it processes for a few minutes then an error message appears stating the file is incorrect. I double checked to make sure I was uploading the file for the router and not the satelite. Was able to update the satelite firmware no problem. Anyone have the same or similar issue??

Re: RBR50 Router

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What version of FW are you trying to update too?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What browser are you using?

Re: RBR50 Router

Make sure you are uploading the RBR50 image file and not the RBS50 image file.

Re: RBR50 Router

You need to apply v212 first I believe, then you should be able to go directly to v104

Re: RBR50 Router

From the release notes in the older firmware selections on the support page it states: Note:If your firmware version is 2.2.1.210 or lower, you cannot update the firmware directly to v2.3 or higher. You must first update the firmware to v2.2.1.212 using the manual firmware update feature in the router web interface.  After updating the firmware to v2.2.1.212, your Orbi router reboots, and then you can update to higher versions.

Unfortunately, the lowest version on the support page is v2.3.1.44.  Hopefully someone has that available for you to bump up your Router.

Re: RBR50 Router

v212 is available on the RBK50 support page:

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBK50.aspx#download

Select the Previous versions download towards the bottom of the FW list.

Re: RBR50 Router

Thanks, FURRYe38! You would think it would be the same on all 50 series support pages. RBK53s support page lists 2.3.1.44 as the lowest. Now FZ1977 has a starting point.

Re: RBR50 Router

Ya you would. Who knows that NG does behind the scenes. Why I always check the RBK50 series pages first. That seems to be the starting point. Smiley Wink

Re: RBR50 Router

Hello Everyone! Following the suggestions from the group, I'm still unable to update the firmware. After an hour and 40 mins on the phone with NG last night, they couldn't figure it out either. Very frustrating!!

Re: RBR50 Router

@vajim I tried that as well. It detects new firmware. I go through the motions to upload the update, shows sucessful. But when I check the firmware version it doesn't reflect the most recent. Still shows the current.

Re: RBR50 Router

So v212 would not install over v74?

Try 2.1.1.12 over v74. This is the next version right after v74.

Just to confirm that you have a retail Orbi and not a ISP branded Orbi? Like Verizon?

Re: RBR50 Router

@vajim I will give it a shot. I tried several with NG tech support last night. I would always get the same error message. "This is not the correct firmware for this product." Something along those lines. I confirmed the product time and time again.

@FURRYe38 Yes, it's a retail Orbi.
