Any options, or roadmap plans, to support Backblaze B2 Cloud service?

Any options, or roadmap plans, to support Backblaze B2 Cloud service?

Community question, and forgive me if this is out there somewhere. I searched, but came up dry. Also, I've not been on these forums in years.

I had an original pre-Netgear ReadyNAS 1500 (or 1100... it was a long time ago), and then I upgraded to an Ultra 6+, which I still use.

Recently I have gotten seriously interested in producing off-site backups, preferrably to the cloud, from the NAS. More critical data than ever, and the powerful rise of cloud computing/storage means the time is NOW to buy into DR for NAS recovery following a major fault, total loss, etc.

I looked at ReadyNAS Vault (https://vault.readynas.com/welcome/pricing.aspx) but the pricing is simply non-competitive. Frankly it's a joke.

I really like Backblaze; and I have learned about B2: https://www.backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage.html

B2 is REST API-centric, open, and their pricing is better. I would pay 14x more for ReadyNAS Vault, versus B2, for the 3TB I want backed up to the cloud.

QUESTION: Is there an ReadyNAS app plan for B2 support?

This isn't a trivial question. Synology integrated their CloudSync application into B2 (https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/6.0/cloud_file_syncing), and now for my next hardware upgrade that makes Synology kit look a lot more attractive all of a sudden, and this coming from a LONG-term ReadyNAS fan. (DS1515+ only $700... You really don't want buyers like me doing this kind of research! Amazon Link)

Any B2 support coming?

Thanks,

Evan

Hi @evan44,

We are sorry about any confusion, but the pricing page you found is *way* out of date and in no way reflects the options available to ReadyNAS Vault subscribers today.

Please take a look here:

http://www.readynasvault.com/cloudfs/

We don't claim to be the lowest priced solution on the market today, but we certainly hope you find these plans and effective price per GB options much more appropriate.

Also, we will find out how you were even presented that old pricing page - it should no longer be linked to and needs to be deprecated.

Again, apologies for the confusion - we hope you will take a look and at a minimum feel that we are more price competitive than your first impression.

Thanks,

RNV Team

Re: Any options, or roadmap plans, to support Backblaze B2 Cloud service?

Thanks for this info. Still, your current pricing requires me to pay $360+ per year for my 3TB, versus $60/year for Amazon Drive / AWS Cloud Drive, or $180/year from Backblaze B2 service. Not so competitive, but at least better than the numbers I found on the first pass.

You should know, SEO-wise: "readynas vault pricing" is a pretty simple and obvious Google search, and ALL the top results from such a simple search are pointers to your old https://vault.readynas.com/welcome/pricing.aspx website. You need to pull those pages totally offline, and update Google Webmaster Tools ("Search Console") to ensure those pages are purged from the Google Search Index.

So, any B2 cloud-service API apps coming?

Thanks for the quick feedback!

re: pricing -- while you are spot on that there are cheaper alternatives, please keep in mind that you can get a lower price by committed to a year (i.e. we essentially offers 12 months for the price of 10 if you go yearly), reducing the 3TB from $360 to $300.  Also, the RNV backup jobs have a more granular set of controls than the services you've identified.  This may not be relevant for your use case, but we thought it would be worth mentioning if you wanted to created custom rules for version management or archiving (aka treating locally deleted files), or run jobs on an irregular schedule, or even create sub-accounts.  Regardless, you have a good handle on the price landscape and are evaluating several good options.  We expect you will find success with any of them.

re: the search results -- Thank you very much.  We've already confirmed your report and are taking steps to rectify.

re: B2 apps -- that is unfortunately out of the purview of the RNV team to comment on, but hopefully soon.

Thanks again!
