Auto Off Timer App for OS6
I have noted that the ReadyNAS 314 (RN31400) has an on/off power timer built in to the OS. Unfortunately, the timer has to first switch the device on at a given time before it can turn it off at a given time. The power timer shows a week calendar comprised of 7x 24 hourly time blocks. The device turns on at the beginning of the selected time block and turns off at the end of that time block or the end of a contiguous selection of time blocks.
What I am looking for a an app that just turns the device off at a given time if it is currently on... This way the device is manually switched on when first needed in the day, but will auto switch off at the end of the day if it is still left on. I consider this to be a better method of power saving than having the timer bring it on at a given time when it may be sat idle for a long time each day before it is first required if at all.
Does anyone know if there is an app that allows this kind of basic time control? Thanks.

Re: Auto Off Timer App for OS6
If I understand your concern properly, you wanted an App wherein if the NAS is left idle for several minutes for example after 15 minutes when there is no activity (no backup jobs, no resync, etc.) it will just turn off automatically by itself, am I right? If ever I am correct, I can say that this is also a good feature to be implemented.
You may want to open a case to Netgear Support and raise your concern as feature request: https://my.netgear.com/registration/login.aspx

Re: Auto Off Timer App for OS6
I have put a request for the following options in the next OS revision:
1) Devices automatically switches off after XXXmins of idle time.
- Allows for manual switch on and auto off after a given idle period... For example. Unit turned on after work to backup files. Once the action is complete it shuts off automatically.
2) The device turns on at XX:XXhours
- Device switches on automatically at a given time then stays on till either turned off manually or a device shuts down automatically via option 1 or 3.
2) The device shuts down at XX:XXhours (currently a system off time can not be set independently of having subsequently set a system on time).
- Allows for the system to be automatically or manually be switched on at say the start of work when it is first actually needed and automatically switch of at the end of the required usage period such as end of the work day.

Re: Auto Off Timer App for OS6
As a workaround, set the power on time as close as possible to the power off time that you want. If the unit is already on it will ignore the power on event.
