RN516 v 6.10.8 was factory reset, now uTorrent will not install

My RAID array was set to read-only after a succession of mains power failures (I suspect).  I have backups of everything including config files, so I am in the process of rebuilding after a factory reset.

However, uTorrent refuses to install, it has been working perfectly for many years.

Plex installed just fine.

Any pointers?  I've tried uploading the deb file, also the later issued patch, both are also failing with "Cannot install application utserver"

Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks.

I did as you said, WINSCP worked fine, files were copied, screenshot attached, but still the same error 😞

UPDATE:  It's working!  I re-read the thread and realised I needed to connect over SSH and run "apt-get update" and now it is installed.

Thank you so much!

Have you seen the fix here?

It's a long thread, so start with post 37.

The NAS uses Debian 8 ("Jessie") for the OS.  That has been deprecated/archived by the Debian folks, so the linux repositories have been moved to achives.  You need to change the NAS configuration for apt to use the archives.

Re: RN516 v 6.10.8 was factory reset, now uTorrent will not install

Hi,

Thanks for this, I'm a novice with Linux but cut my teeth with CP/M and DOS, so I think I can manage to do this.

However, and this is probably a stupid question, but I don't understand this:

"Put these somewhere on your NAS using SMB, the GUI, or whatever. Then, from SSH, you simply need to copy them from where you put them to their proper place."

Where is the "proper place" for the files?

Thanks again.

The post actually does say

  • /etc/apt/sources.list
  • /etc/apt/apt.conf

So they both go into the /etc/apt/ folder

I haven't heard CP/M in a long time...

One possibility is to use WinSCP on the PC.  You enable ssh on the NAS (as you would anyway) in system->services->ssh of the admin web ui.  Make sure you enable password authentication.  There is no need to download an ssh key file.  BTW, if you are using the default admin password (e.g., password), you need to change it to something else.

You can then create a site entry in WinSCP for the NAS. Select "Tabs" at the top, and then "sites" (at the bottom of the pulldown).  You'll then be able to open site manager.  Set the protocol to SFTP, and the host name to the NAS IP address.  The port should be defaulted to 22.  Set the username to root, and set the password to your NAS admin password.

After saving this, click on "new tab",  You'll be able to select the NAS site from there. You should see a long list of folders in the right pane of WinSCP, including etc.  Navigate to /etc/apt, and then just drag the files into it.
