ReadyNAS Duo RND2110 v1 - Struggling to access files

Hi All,

 

I have an old, but very important (to me) RND2110 device - it has all my photos stored as a 'safe backup'.  Well now I have changed homes, routers and setup (laptops etc).  I now cannot access my ReadyNas device. 

 

I have successfully ran RAIDAR and it can see the devices, but my laptop won't let me connect to them!

 

I am looking to borrow a friends laptop to see if my laptop settings are locked down and preventing me.  

 

but when i attempt to connect 192.168.1.229 (with either /media share or admin page - I get the same 'this site can't be reached' / 192.168.1.229 refused to connect error...

 

Any ideas?

One possibility is that you assigned a static IP address to the NAS at some point in the past - and that IP address isn't compatible with your current router's local LAN configuration.

 

Does the PC also have a 192.168.1.xxx local address?  Or are some of the first three numbers different?

If you have a Mac, note that the second link calls the local address the "internal" address.

 

There are other possibilities, but let's check this one first.

A "backup" is (by definition) an additional copy of something - not the ONLY copy.  If the NAS holds the only copy of these photos, then it is "primary storage", and not a "backup".  

 

If that is your situation, then you should know that RAID is not enough to keep your data safe.  One aspect here is that you are storing your data on a device that is 10+ years old.  You need another copy on a different device (or possibly the cloud).  So you should take care of that after you restore access.
