AC1600 R6260 installation problem

Hi - I just purchased the AC1600 R6260 wireless router and I cannot get it to connect to our internet when following the install instructions. The old router was working, so I know that the modem and cables are not the issue. I even called our internet provider and there are no problems on that end. Why isn't the internet connecting to this router? Please help!  Thanks, Mary

Re: AC1600 R6260 installation problem

You can get to the admin console with all the router settings by plugging a computer into the router with an ethernet cable. Open a web browser and type in 192.168.1.1 and you will be prompted for a password and it will lead you through the setup. Default is user: admin password: password . If it doesn't recognize the internet after it leads you through the setup then try messing with the Internet IP settings I mentioned in the previous post.

I know the struggle lol just dont give up! Once I got it working it actually increased my network speed by 3x.

You do realize that the non-psychics in your audience can't see any
of your equipment, or what you're doing, or what happens when you do it,
right?

You first?  Here's a radical concept:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Beyond the
basic set-up instructions, look for the LED descriptions and
"Troubleshoot".

Your last paragraph would have been a sufficient reply.

I had no way of knowing that, either.  The preface was your own
personally customized guide to asking a technical question, in case the
product documentation was not enough on its own.  You can keep it for
future reference.  You're welcome.

Does that mean that you found a solution to the problem (whatever it
was)?  (Care to share?)

Re: AC1600 R6260 installation problem

I had this same problem yesterday setting up a R6260 AC1600 wireless router. My solution was to set up the configurations manually in the Internet Setup tab. For some reason the router was defaulting to a static IP address. When I changed the "Internet IP Address" section to Get Dynamically from ISP it was finally able to recognize the connection. I also changed the "
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address" section to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 for Cloudflare DNS but I don't think that is what ultimately fixed the problem.

Also Netgear, the password that was provided on the routers sticker was not correct. If I wasn't an IT professional that would have caused a huge headache. Otherwise, it works great once configured properly.

Wow - can we hire you to help us?😆
We don’t have the technical know-how to handle this installation I’m afraid! It is more complicated than the first one we got many years ago. Anyway, thanks for the reply! We will keep trying.

Re: AC1600 R6260 installation problem

I’m next to a condominium Bldg and I believe there is another “NetGear05” logon nearby, so my laptop won’t connect because of the “other network with the same name “

How do I change the name?

Instead of creating your own, new thread for your own, different
problem, you joined this old thread, and then, apparently, paid no
attention to the advice in it.  Why?

Look, too, for "Manage the Basic WiFi Settings and WiFi Security of
the Main Network".  Further reading might not hurt, either.

Re: AC1600 R6260 installation problem

Plug an ethernet cable into it and connect the other end to your computer. Then you should be able to use a web browser to navigate to the 192.168.1.1 . Username: user ; Password: passoword . Then it will lead you through the setup and you'll be able to change the SSID name for the router.

At least one of us should read the documentation more carefully
before offering advice like this.  Reading your own advice before
hitting "POST" might not hurt, either.

Re: AC1600 R6260 installation problem

What’s your problem? People ask for help and you razz them and tell them to read the docs. Stfu if you aren’t going to be constructive.

What, exactly, do you believe is wrong with reading the
documentation?  Even Netgear documentation seldom packs errors so
densely as some of the advice found here.  Are the default user name and
password in "the docs" any less helpful than your suggestions?

> [...] if you aren't going to be constructive.

What, exactly, do you believe is "constructive" about posting
misinformation (wrong "Username", misspelled "Password")?

What, exactly, do you believe is not "constructive" about directions
to find and read "the docs"?

I'm curious.  Is it physically painful to be that incompetent?
