When trying to upgrade the firmware of the WiFi Router Netgear WNR2000v5 from 1.0.0.34 to 1.0.0.70 either by the web application (via routerlogin.net) or by the local Genie app I encounter an error saying "Failed to get firmware version information" (see attachment). Also when I download the .img file from the zip-archive and try to upgrade the firmware manually there is again an error "Error when updating the firmware".
Disabling the antivirus software and doing the steps above from a different computer did not solve the issue.
It would be very nice if someone could give me a hint how to proceed to get the firmware installed.

Corrupt firmware? You may be a candidate for the TFTP recovery
scheme. See, for example:

You might try a smaller jump. (The phrase "binary search" leaps to
mind.)

Re: Firmware upgrade on WNR2000v5 from 1.0.0.34 to 1.0.0.70 failed
Thank you for your reply. There is no other firmware version available in the download section of the concerned model. And when I try to do the automatic firmware upgrade without supplying a particular version and simply letting the system look for a matching version the error is also produced. Perhaps you could give me some guidance on how exactly to do the smaller leap.

Look again (further down)? Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in
your model number, and look for Downloads. (For older versions, under
Firmware and Software Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)
Find the kit(s). Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release
Notes" file for instructions.

Thank you for the instructions.
Unfortunately not even the smallest jump (from 1.0.0.34 to 1.0.0.42) is possible. When attempting the error message is exactly the same as for the current firmware version (see attachment).

Thank you very much for the advice. It indeed worked out to use the TFTP-client to transfer the latest firmware version to the router as described in this article: https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
