R6050 AC7050 power light stays amber, no wifi
My R6050 AC7050 has worked the last few years. Now when i turn it on the power light stays amber, and none of the other lights come on. There is no wifi. User manual has no siutation where power light stays amber. Here is what it says for Blinking amber. "The firmware is upgrading, or the Restore Factory Settings button was pressed". But it is not blinking.
I tried pressing Restore Factory Settings button with a paper clip but I don't think there is a button. It is just a hole and when I put paper clip in there, I don't feel it pressing any button.

You can try recoving it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw
and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

Re: R6050 AC7050 power light stays amber, no wifi
Thanks for the help. Yes I am on windows 10 but I couldn't figure out how to upgrade firmware. The TFTP link on the video page gives me a 403 forbidden access error: http://www.shadowsoftware.net/shadowgameworld/downloads/
So I gave away the R6050 router to someone on craigslist who thought he could get it working. I bought a new Netger R6080 AC1000 router on sale for $40 and am using that instead.

How fast is your Internet connection? If is is above 100 Mbps then the R6080 isn't fast enough.
The R6080 tops out at 100 Mbps (100BASE-Tx) on the WAN/LAN. That is a lot slower than the R6050, which does 1000 Mbps (1000BASE-T).

No idea where that came from. The video link that @plemans posted works:
This is the local TFTP link:

Re: R6050 AC7050 power light stays amber, no wifi
Thanks again. Speed test says my Spectrum internet is 44 mbps download and 10 mbps upload. Are there home providers that offer more than 100 mbps? The TFTP link I gave that won't work for me is from the you tube site that @plemans posted. It's on the same video link you posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw
Yes I saw the TFTP step by step guide but I couldn't follow it so gave away the router. I no longer have the R6050. So R6080 is slower than R6050? I thought newer model would be better.

Sure are. Plenty of people turn up here with 400 Mbps services and some go up to !000 Mbps.
In many countries anyone offering less than 100 Mbps these days wouldn't stand much chance.
Just as important for some of us is local network traffic. With half a dozen NAS boxes, an Arlo camera system and various media devices, I would struggle with local traffic stuck at 100 Mbps.
I am surprised that Netgear still lets any 100BASE-Tx routers out of the building.

The US is famously bad at Internet services.
New Report States US Has World's 13th Fastest Internet | Allconnect
That report says:
Americans are currently getting around 204 Mbps of download speed and 74 Mbps of upload speed through their fixed broadband connections — good for 13th in the world and nearly double the global average
The rest of the world is ahead, especially in South East Asian. (Think Korea and Taiwan.)
A quick web search suggests that a lot of people can do a lot better than 100 Mbps.
Fastest High Speed Internet | 2021 ISP Guide | U.S. News
Xfinity – up to 2,000 Mbps
Mediacom - up to 1000 Mbps
AT&T Internet - up to 940 Mbps
Verizon Internet- up to 940 Mbps
Those speeds would leave an R6080 standing in the dust.
It would be nice of they offered the same here in the UK. Then again, I am not one of those people who thinks fast is essential. At ~65 Mbps I sense no slow downs. But even at that speed I would not want to have a router crawling along at 100 Mbps.
