hi,
I am getting this error message after having tried to set up e-mailing of the log file for my router
[email failed] SMTPclient: smtp.mail.yahoo.com: unknown host |
On the e-mail page in Netgear Smart Wizard, I have set things up as follows
Your Outgoing Mail Server smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Send to This E-mail Address *********@yahoo.com (my email address)
User Name *********@yahoo.com
Password ############ (my password)
Could someone kindly help me understand why this is not working?
Thank you very much.
Dave

POP server settings for Yahoo Mail
POP lets you connect your Yahoo Mail account to a desktop mail client or mobile app. It uses 1-way synching, which downloads your email as a copy into the app, allowing you to move and delete them in the app without affecting the original emails. Here are the settings you'll need to configure your mail client or app.
Incoming Mail (POP) Server
- Server - pop.mail.yahoo.com
- Port - 995
- Requires SSL - Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
- Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- Port - 465 or 587
- Requires SSL - Yes
- Requires TLS - Yes (if available)
- Requires authentication - Yes
Your login info
- Email address - Your full email address (name@domain.com.)
- Password - Your account's password.
- Requires authentication - Yes

Re: error message with log emails
Can you go ahead and verify with your ISP if they're blocking port 25.
The default port that's used for that Outgoing mail server on the router is port 25.

Re: error message with log emails
Thanks, Elaine.
My ISP is Comcast. I switched the email account to the one I rarely use for that. These are their email configurations .They don't like port 25.
Outgoing Mail Server Name: smtp.comcast.net
Outgoing Mail Server Port Number:
Recommended: 587 (SMTP)
Only if Needed: 465 (SMTPS)
So the setup looks like this now
Your Outgoing Mail Server smtp.comcast.net
Send to This E-mail Address *********@yahoo.com (my email address)
I tried sending from the Logs page but it hasn't shown up yet in my yahoo account. The logs sent hourly will happen (or not) in a few minutes.
User Name *********@comcast.net
Password ############ (my password)

Re: error message with log emails
By default, that router uses port 25. Unlike newer models, you can specify the port for Outgoing mail server.
If your ISP blocks port 25 then there will be no other way to get this working even if you made changes in the Outgoing mail server settings.
You may have to look for newer models such as R7000, R8000, & R8500.
Browse our newer models here.

Re: error message with log emails
Thanks, Elaine. I suppose you mean to say that router can not specify a different port.
Would this be something that a firmware update could handle?
