Create backup degraded volume

Can I still create backup (to USB drive) when volume is degraded? Is that too late? Thx!

Re: Create backup degraded volume

Yes, in fact, you should do so as soon as possible, as your volume is at risk of moving from degraded to dead, where recovery is needed instead of just a file backup.  A configuration backup is a good idea, too.

The volume re-sync needed to integrate a replacement drive into the array is very drive intensive, and a second drive near failure could be pushed over the edge to also fail.  After you do the backup, then it is safe to replace the drive that's causing the volume to be degraded.  If a second drive does fail, you have more work to to, but your files are safe.
