Default to RAID 5 after factory reset?

I am a relative novice in these matters and would appreciate some help.
I have a ReadyNAS 104 with 3 x 3TB WD Red drives- I have been experiencing the freezing widely reported here after exceeding 70% capacity. I have moved all my files to other devices, upgraded from 6.1.3 to 6.1.6 and performed a factory reset which took about 30 hours. On signing in to Frontview for the first time the System page says the system is healthy and that I have 3.23TB of 5.45TB free which is strange because I have not yet loaded any files. Where has 2.2TB gone?
I have also discovered that it is configured as Raid 5 which, according to the manual, should be total capacity minus one disk. That should be 6TB not 3.23TB. The manual also says the default after a factory reset is XRAID2. Can anyone tell me where my missing capacity is and whether I should be using RAID 5 or XRAID2?
Thanks Phil

Re: Default to RAID 5 after factory reset?

Xraid is the one to use, effectively it is raid 5 wth your setup.
5.45tb is your volume size and that is correct. 3tb disks are about 2.7tb, manufacturers use a different unit of measurement.
Are you sure you did a factory default?
Are any shares listed?
Have you rebooted the Nas since the factory default?
What you may need to do is delete the current volume and recreate it if rebooting doesn't work. If that fails, contact support.

Re: Default to RAID 5 after factory reset?

Thanks for the quick response Vandermerwe.
First of all I am an idiot! Reading the page again I realise that it is telling me that I have used 3.23Megabytes of 5.4TB not 3.23 Terabytes. Obviously there are some system files in the volume. Sorry for the mistake.
However, I am still confused about what type of RAID array has been set up. The admin page says that it is RAID5 but there is an icon that shows XRAID with a green bar underneath. If I click on that I get a popup asking if I really want to toggle from XRAID to Flex-RAID which implies that I am actually running XRAID. If that is the case why does the admin page say that my volume is RAID5? It is possible that I may add a fourth drive and I would prefer to be running XRAID so that I can add the extra drive without having to rebuild the array. I would like to be sure before I start reloading all my data. If I knew how to add a screenshot to this post I would show you the page.

With 3 drives xraid is using raid5.
You are definetly in xraid mode.

I have a xraid volume with dual redundancy on my 316. The GUI sayS raid6 and the xraid symbol is green.
Exactly how it should be.
