Disk drive failure in Readynas Duo V1 - Advice please
My old (but until now reliable) ReadyNas Duo V1 failed this morning. It's a 2 drive unit. It powers on but cannot be found on network by Raidar or Windows explorer. Have found that if I remove Disk 1 it boots OK and can access data on disk 2 so assume disk 1 has failed. This is supported by a status log entry from yesterday indicating relocated sector count was increasing on this disk. The disks are 750GB Seagate Barracuda models (ST350330AS). What options do I have for replacing the failing drive if I can't locate an identical unit? For example, can I replace it with a 1TB model which are more readily available?
Thanks

You can replace it with a 1 TB drive (or even a 2 TB drive), but you won't get more storage unless you replace both drives. > 2 TB drives are not supported.
NAS-purposed drives (Western Digital EFRX or Seagate VN drives) are good choices. The disk HCL is very out of date, so you might not be able to stick to it (and you aren't covered by warranty anyway, so there are no support implications).
I don't recommend green drives generally for NAS, and there are issues reported here with some seagate models. Search this forum for the specific model you are considering before purchase ("xxxxx site:readynas.com/forum" works quite nicely in google).

Re: Disk drive failure in Readynas Duo V1 - Advice please
OK. Have confirmed that disk drive in slot 1 has failed. Have removed it and ReadyNas now powers on and is usable with jut the drive in slot 2 plugged in. It is a 750GB Seagate Baracuda ST350330AS. Have purchased a 1TB WD10EFRX as a replacment for disk 1 (which was also a 750GB Baracuda ST350330AS). Can you confim replacement procedure? Do I just plug the new 1TB drive in slot 1 and let the ReadyNas sync the 2 drives and re-establish the RAID redundancy? The ReadyNas firmware is at Raidiattor 4.1.14.
Thanks

Yup! You may insert the new 1TB drive into slot1 and it should automatically proceed with the resync process.

BTW, it is best to insert the new drive with the NAS powered on.
