NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

I just upgraded my NV+ with 2 extra 2TB disk. With the X raid calculator it calculated that I was going to get 3.67 TB, however I ony get 2.74 TB as the 2 TB disk only allocate 927 GB

Ch 1 : SAMSUNG HD103UJ [931 GB] 927 GB allocated
Ch 2 : SAMSUNG HD103UJ [931 GB] 927 GB allocated
Ch 3 : Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 [1862 GB] 927 GB allocated
Ch 4 : Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 [1862 GB] 927 GB allocated

I copied al my data to an external drive did a factory reset and still 2.74 TB. Anyone any idea what I am doing wrong?

Try restarting the NAS.

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

Unfortunately that didn't work, I am running on RAIDiator 4.1.10 the Firmware on the seagate disk is CC3C. I know there is a newer version but I don't think that wil solve the problem.

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

Seagate firmware is a complicated subject, the only way to tell is to use their utility (which needs the drive serial number, and has a very annoying captcha...) I agree the drive firmware isn't likely to be the cause here.

Is journaling disabled or disk-spindown enabled? If so, try enabling journaling and disabling spindown, and reboot again.

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

I only have tablets and laptops in the house so a Seagate HD Firmware upgrade is going to be a challange. I am in the proces of my third factory reset. First with one 2 TB disk and then the other both times 1862 GB was allocated. Now I put in all the disk's again. Slot 1+2 1TB and slot 3+4 2TB and another factory reset. It is raing cats and dogs and have nothing else to do so .....
If this doesn't work i will try your option although I don't remember ever seeing a "disk-spindown" option.

Thanks and hopfully in 11 hours or so I can report a positive result.

Hope it works. Disk spin-down is configured on system->power ("Enable disk spin-down" check box, with an associated timer).

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

Well it didn't work. I will wait an other 3 hours until Resync is finished and try your option.

Configuration: X-RAID (Expandable RAID), 4 disks
Status: Resync 21% complete, Time to finish 3 hr 18 min, Speed 62.4 MB/sec
RAID Disks:

Ch 1 : SAMSUNG HD103UJ [931 GB] 927 GB allocated
Ch 2 : SAMSUNG HD103UJ [931 GB] 927 GB allocated
Ch 3 : Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 [1862 GB] 927 GB allocated
Ch 4 : Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 [1862 GB] 927 GB allocated

You just finished the factory default? It might expand after the resync completes.

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

X-RAID on the NV+ (v1) uses the capacity of the smallest disk so a volume capacity of roughly 2.7TB is expected.

You should update the firmware on your SeaGate disks to CC3D

Would Flexraid do better? (creating a second RAID-1 volume)

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

Why should I update the firmware on your SeaGate disks to CC3D ? and what is the differance between Flexraid en X-Raid and how can I change this?

With X-RAID you would have a single volume using the capacity of the smallest disk. Expansion will occur automatically.

With Flex-RAID volumes cannot be expanded. However you can create multiple volumes (up to four - two including any given disk) e.g. to make full use of the space available when using disks of different capacities.

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

Switching to flexraid requires a factory reset, which will wipe your disks (deleting data and configuration). You have a 10 minute window after the reset starts to select flexraid - you do this with RAIDar.

You should review the manual before you begin. http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ ... 6Dec11.pdf

Your other option is to get 2 more 2 TB drives...

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

Thanks a lot and my sincere apologies I have been reading and googling night and day. As I honor my name (ReadyNAS Newbie) and the NAS was second hand i didn't get a manuel with it. Will read everything I can fin about flexraid. Thanks again.

Re: NV+ X-Raid 2x1TB + 2x2TB

No need to apologize. The link in my earlier post is the manual. I was just thinking it would be quickest for you to start with there, and then follow up here with questions. All the RAID modes can be confusing.

I think that FlexRaid will let you set up one raid-5 volume that spans all 4 disks (which would be ~3 TB of space, and is basically what you have now), and then add a second RAID-1 volume that uses the extra space on drive 3 and 4 (giving you the additional ~1 TB). Though I have not personally set up a system like this.
