New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
Hi,
We just got a new ReadyNAS RN31600 at work. Also got 4x3TB Seagate ST3000VN000 disks.
This is what I have done so far:
- Put in the 4 new disks
- Connected power
- Connected ethernet port to a Zyxel 10/100 24 port switch
- Powered on the ReadyNAS 316
This is the results so far:
- Device started and went through an automated routine. Didn't pay attention to the details. Think it said something about boot, default, and xraid2 or something.
- Device is doing something on the disks because the blue disk leds are blinking
- The display says "nas-6e-3a-f6" and "6.0.8" on line 2.
- Line 2 shows the ip address "10.0.0.63" on line 2 very briefly (a few milliseconds) then goes back to showing "6.0.8"
When I try to connect from RAIDar 4.3.8 installed on my iMac running OS X Mavericks it finds the nas on IP 10.0.0.63, showing MAC address "xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx, Model "ReadyNAS 316", IP Address "10.0.0.63", and nothing on disks, fan, power, and temp. But when I try to run setup on it, it can't connect saying "Cannot connect to server on 10.0.0.63".
Is this because the ReadyNAS is installing stuff on the disks (the disk leds are blinking blue) and the system is not installed yet?

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
What does RAIDar show under the Info (far right) column?
Only limited information is showed in RAIDar for ReadyNAS OS 6 as you have observed.

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
Is the I.P. of your Mac 10.0.0.x (where x is not 63)?
You still can't connect if you click the setup button?

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
My iMac is 10.0.0.12 assigned via DHCP from router on 10.0.0.138
Nope, cannot connect when pressing the "Setup" button in Raidar.

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
Try powering the system off
Then power it on again.
If you still have the same problem, try doing a factory default via the boot menu

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
How long time should it normally take before the thing is up and running and I can connect with RAIDar from first time powerup with new disks?

Far less time than you've waited. Only a matter of minutes.

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
When I press the on/off button inside the front door it does not respond. I have tried pressing it 1, 2, and 3 times.
Can I turn off the power supply on the back?
Or do I hold in the on/off button for 5 secs?

Re: New ReadyNAS 316 cannot connect from iMac
Ok,
I held the on/off button in for 5 seconds, the unit switched off.
Then I pressed it again to turn it on. It booted, then said "Retry startup".
After a while it said "Failed to startup".
Then "Retry startup" again.
Then "Fail to startup" and so on...
