Problem to use WIndows 8 Shares for Backup

I used on my old Windows XP Computer the backup Utility from ReadyNAS to back up my Folders on the Windows XP Computer. For that, I could configure backup Tasks accessing shared Folders on the Windows Computer.

I have now a new Windows 8 Computer and wanted to do the same. But I did not manage to share a Folder on the Windows 8 Computer such that the ReadyNAS can access it. I have tried various Options, but whenever I try to test the Connection to the shared Folder on the Windows 8 PC from my ReadyNAS, I get the message that the Connection failed.

I verified the share - another Windows XP Computer was able to see the shared folder on the Windows 8 Computer - so it looks like the share works; it is only the ReadyNAS that has a Problem.

I have a Ultra 2, Firmware 4.2.22

Thanks for Feedback!

Re: Problem to use WIndows 8 Shares for Backup

I have the same problem. I have a ReadyNAS 104 that backs up my Windows 7 machine. When I try the same type of backup for my new Windows 8 machine, it will only work with the IP address, not the computer name. That isn't going to fly long term since the IP is DHCP. In addition, when using the IP address the Test Connection button will throw the error, "Could not connect to folder", however it will still backup. I think it recognizes the computer if you enter the computer name as the host, since entering a bogus computer name throws the error, "Unable to connect to host.", so why it sorta works with the IP and not with the computer name is a mystery. Again, with Windows 7 using the computer name as the host is ok.

Another bug I've found is that if I try to back up the My Pictures folder by entering "Pictures" as the path, it works for the Windows 7 machine but does not work for Windows 8.

I called into the tech support and they couldn't figure it out either.

Re: Problem to use WIndows 8 Shares for Backup

I added "guest" accounts to share folder. Trying to create Archive Bit backup job(as source),click "Test connect" button, use Windows 7 can be connected successfully, but Windows 8 can't.
Then I use win7 to access win8, it is failed.
And I viewed the Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policy -> User Right Assign. "Deny access to this computer from the network",remove "guest" account for this.Because it will deny access to this computer from the network.
