Question on Scrub procedure and what happens
I ran the new 6.0 version of RAIDar on my RN104, and saw a "diagnostics" button so I ran it. The test only showed disk 2 having some command timeouts. So, I decided to run a scrub to make sure data was okay. It took over 33 hours to complete (about midnight last night), but this morning I was greeted by a few ReadyNAS email notices that volume health was changed from redundant to degraded, and one of the disks state was changed from online to failed. I immediately thought I needed to replace another disk. I tried to get into the admin page to check the problem more, but it was offline. RAIDar still connects, but shows "Management Service is Offline". Luckily, I have PhpSysInfo installed, so I tried that web page on my RN104. It shows Disk 3 as in Recovery (not disk 2 that had the command timeouts):
Current Action: recovery
3.9%
Finishing in 1553 min
So is it safe to say, my disk hasn't failed? The system is just recovering the data on disk 3, and this is a normal part of the scrub procedure when it finds any errors or discrepancies?

Re: Question on Scrub procedure and what happens
Best thing to do is to check the disks using disk diagnostic tools like Seatools for Seagate and WD Lifeguard for Western Digital.
Do you have a backup? What FW/Raidiator version are you running?

Re: Question on Scrub procedure and what happens
Yes, I do have backups. I do nightly ones to another drive. I'm running 6.2.3 w/ SSH enabled.
I've used Seatools on drives before, but this is a WD Red drive, So I was wondering if the had something similar. Drive is only 3 month old, so it should be warrantied if needed.
But my main question was whether this is the sequence that's followed when you initiate a scrub? Does it take a disk offline if it needs to repair/recover?
From PhpSysInfo, it's up to 22.2% of the recovery done. I should find out in about 20 hours when it completes the recovery if my volume goes back from "degraded" to "redundant", and if Disk 3 goes from "failed" back to "online". Just wondering if anybody knew what I should expect. Do I need to get the ball rolling on purchase / delivery of a new 4TB drive?

Re: Question on Scrub procedure and what happens
Can you download the logs using RAIDar 6.0 then send them to me (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?
The scrub makes sure the disks are all synced up. This puts heavy stress on all of the disks. If a disk is failing it can finish it off.

I'd agree with Nhellie that you should test the disks using the disk manufacturer's diagnostic tool.

I just sent the logs, so is this comment based on those? I'll pull the disk and check ASAP, but I want to make sure it's not in the middle of a recovery. Or is there a way to check the disk without pulling it and attaching it to a PC?
PhpSysInfo seems to indicate the rebuild is finished (ie nothing is showing up), but I still cannot access the admin page. RAIDar 6.0 diagnostics now shows:
2015-04-30 07:18:05: md/raid:md126: raid level 5 active with 2 out of 3 devices, algorithm 2
2015-04-30 07:18:04: md/raid:md1: raid level 6 active with 3 out of 4 devices, algorithm 2
And the main RAIDar screen "Status" is "Management Service is Offline".
RAIDar 4.3.8 has a blue dot at the beginning of that status line, flashing green dot under Volume Status, and a flashing green dot under Disk 3 Disk Status. When I hover over the green dot under volume status, it indicates"
Volume data: RAID Level 5, Recovery 0.0% complete, Time to Finish 35791394 hr 7 min, Speed 0 MB/s, 6.9TB (70%0 of 9.9TB used.
That's been the same status since yesterday morning when it started the recovery. It hasn't progressed, even though checking the status with PhpSysInfo showed it progressing, and now appears to be finished.

Can you send a fresh set of logs?
