RN2120 6.5.0 Very slow read after upgrade. Write is still ok.
Reading performance slow but write performance is good. I'm using a movie of 4GB which is written to the NAS in 30 seconds. When trying to copy it back to the PC it takes 10 hours.
I get the same poor reading performance on two different PC's and through two different switches. I've also tested to copy the file between the PC's through both swithes and the results are the same. Thus, copying the file works well in all cases except when it is read from the NAS.
No snapshots or cloud services enabled.
Any ideas?

Do you have jumbo frames enabled on the NAS? Is so try turning them off.
Also, are you using teaming?
You might want to look at the packet stats on the NAS nic - you can find them in the downloaded log zip.

MTU is 1500. Teaming is not used.

Using Explorer is very slow but downloading the same file using HTTP works ok.

What OS is running on the two PCs? If you have A/V or internet security software running on them, have you tried disabling it?
If you are using Windows, could you try a test with NasTester (http://www.808.dk/?code-csharp-nas-performance)

Windows 7. No change when A/V and Firewall is disabled. Also, performance is ok between the computers when accessing a share on one of them from the other. The issue is only when reading from the NAS.

Re: RN2120 6.5.0 Very slow read after upgrade. Write is still ok.
This is helpful. You have a 100 mbit (fast ethernet) connection at the PC? If so, is the NAS connected with gigabit?

Gigabit for the NAS. Tried different connections for the PC - Gigabit and WiFi. Two different switches tested. Note that read is ok over HTTP but not SMB.

Re: RN2120 6.5.0 Very slow read after upgrade. Write is still ok.
I did see that the read worked ok with http.
The 11.6 MB/sec write speed suggests that you have a 100 mbit connection somewhere along the path. So I was wondering about queue overrun in whatever switch is doing the downspeed.

Re: RN2120 6.5.0 Very slow read after upgrade. Write is still ok.
Same issue though when the PC is directely connected to the same switch as the NAS and both the PC and the NAS is using Gigabit. Write was faster than over WiFi but Read still very slow.

Since this happens on the wired connection, troubleshooting it on wifi will only make things harder to isolate.
The next step is a direct-connect test - with the PC ethernet directly connected to the NAS (bypassing the switch). You do need to set up temporary static IP addresses on both devices to get this to work, and also access the NAS with it's IP address instead of its name.
Also, have you tried this on a second PC? Is IPv6 enabled on the NAS?

After disabling IPv6 read is ok.

Hopefully Netgear will fix that. But at least it "solves" your issue for now.
