Ready Nas Adding a new disk

Hi Guys,

Following on from this thread...

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/replacement-Harddrive-ReadyNAS-Ultra-4/m-p/1149...

...I have finally purchased a new drive.

Have put the new drive in and it has been tested ok.

Logs show..

Mon May 15 17:48:49 GMT 2017Data volume will be rebuilt with disk 2.

In Volumes, the volume is greyed out.

In Status, the disk is still showing as Dead, with the old model number,

 Disk 2Seagate ST32000542AS 1863 GB , 0 C / 32 F  - Dead

How do I tell it to do its thing??

Thanks

Terry

Hello h22solutions,

Before inserting this new disk, were you able to get to the files? I checked the previous topic and found that you have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 which is a 4-bay NAS, do you only 2 disks with it? You may also need to include the firmware version on your response and if yoyu have full backup of the data.

Welcome to the community!

Regards,

Did the drive somehow get marked as a spare?  It doesn't sound like it, but another user reported that as a problem.

Re: Ready Nas Adding a new disk

Yes, only 2 disks. Last time I swapped a drive, I think I just inserted it and it worked, but I could be wrong - it was a long time ago!! hehe

I dont have a backup of the single disk.

Re: Ready Nas Adding a new disk

Logs show "Data volume will be rebuilt with disk 2." (everytime it starts up.)

Health shows Disk 2 - yellow flashing indicator - Status = Dead

I think you need one.

What model is the replacement drive, and how did you test it?

Re: Ready Nas Adding a new disk

Hi Stephen,

It's a brand new drive, I haven't tested it, other than place it in the machine.

I purchased 2 of thoses drives, so I'll test the other one in the nas drive and see how that goes.

Thanks for your help so far,

Terry.

Maybe check it with Seatools in a Windows PC (assuming you got the Ironwolf).
