ReadyNAS 102 not recognizing a second drive
Hi. I have a ReadyNAS 102 on the latest firmware, recently purchased with two WD RED 4TB NAS hard drives (the 5400s).
When I first got everything installed, the 102 would only recognize one drive (only one drive light turns on).
I powered down, swapped the two trays slots and it would still only recognize one drive (the same drive as the first try, now in bay 2).
Finally, I swapped trays, and it would still only recognize one drive. So the same drive works with either tray in either slot.
I assumed the second drive had a defect, and had it RMAd.
When the replacement arrived, I installed it in the tray while the ReadyNAS was powered on and the second drive light still never turned on.
The ReadyNAS Admin page only identifies a single drive as having been installed.
Am I doing something wrong? These are new from the factory drives.

- dasmbAspirantOr forget it, I swapped the drive bays and reboot the NAS. Now it's rebuilding the new drive as RAID 1, which is exactly what I would have wanted.
A process I will call "Not Hot, but Definitely Swap."
ReadyNAS Experience: it's been weird but pleasant. I think the whole initial setup process could use better documentation -- once the system's up, ReadyNAS Admin software is excellent.
Features are excellent. I especially liked that I could plug in my half dozen old USB drives directly into the NAS and import all my files without having to leave them plugged into a laptop all night. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should be able to add a disk while the NAS is on. If it is a used disk you should have the option to wipe it so it can be added to the array.
Have you tested your disks using the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostic tool? Are there any SMART errors on the disks?
