ReadyNAS 202 sporadisch extremer Einbruch der Transferrate

Hallo zusammen,

Jochen

ReadyNAS 202 sporadically extreme drop in transfer rate

Sorry, wrong language 😞

Hello everybody,

I have a brand new ReadyNAS 202 in operation, which was previously stored for several years in the 😊 cabinet. I have installed the latest firmware (6.10.3) and 2 x 2 TB Harddisks. In principle everything works. However, I have noticed that the web interface reacts very sporadically with an extreme delay and the data throughput also drops sporadically.

I.e. when copying a large amount of data I have a data throughput of about 70 - 95 MB/s.  From time to time (about every 30 - 60 seconds) the throughput drops to 0.2 MB/s, which remains for about 5 - 10 seconds and then goes up again to about 80 MB/s. First I thought of the network, but even if I connect the NAS directly with the PC by cable this happens.

Does anyone have an idea?

Many greetings

Jochen

What disks are you using?  One possibility here is that they are SMR drives.

If the problem happening with reads from the NAS, writes to the NAS, or both?

Re: ReadyNAS 202 sporadically extreme drop in transfer rate

Hi,

thanks a lot for your reply.

I have two of this disks installed:

Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 3,5" SATA 2.000 GB - Festplatte - 7.200 rpm 8,5 ms - Intern USB, USB 2.0

And it happens when reading and when writing files.

But: On the second harddsik I found an error (see attaches picture); can this be the reason?

Best regards

Jochen

Re: ReadyNAS 202 sporadically extreme drop in transfer rate

ATA errors could be the reason, yes.  Maybe also look at the full smart stats for both drives.  One way to do that is to download the full log zip file, and look in disk_info.log.

Current 2 TB Barracudas do use SMR, so I suggest replacing it with an Ironwolf or maybe an Ironwolf Pro.

The other possibility is that this is a network issue.  If you are comfortable with ssh, you could use linux commands to do some transfer tests that don't use the network.  Or perhaps connect a USB drive to the NAS, and copy files back and forth to the main volume using the web ui (not file explorer or finder).
