ReadyNas NV+ V1 Kernal Panic After FactoryReset and OS Reinstall

I have a readynas nv+ v1 (SPARC) from 2008 that started needing OS reinstalls whenever it froze. Finally it froze on a Disck Check and I determined that drive 3 was the issue. After pulling it, and ensuring the important data was backed up I replaced drive 3 with the same issue. Suspecting an issue with the actual NAS I ordered a replacement (a nice shiney 2015 model - not netgear brand) and migrated all the date with the 3rd drive pulled. I then decided I was going to use the NV+ as a backup to my new one using rsync. Before I could get all this set up I did a factory reset and once complete had a kernal panic. So I did a OS reintsall followed by a Kernal panic. Since I last started from scratch 7 years ago I cannot remember if I am doing anything wrong.

Have any of y'all seen a Kernal Panic after a Factory Reset and OS re-install?

Details:

Netgear ReadyNas NV+ V1

2x WD 2TB Drives (both without SMART errors)

256 MB RAM - passed memory test

Radiator 4.something - whatever the latest is for SPARC.

I was able to resolve this by factory resetting, using RAIDar to format the drives, then re-factory resetting and using RAIDar to select my raid option (in this case RAID1).

Re: ReadyNas NV+ V1 Kernal Panic After FactoryReset and OS Reinstall

I had a bunch of problems with my NV+ v1.

I did get a kernel panic at some point, can't remember exactly why... but USB recovery (see http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=159 and get image from http://www.readynas.com/download/support/ReadyNAS_USB_Flash_Recovery-4.1.14.img and use http://www.netbsd.org/~martin/rawrite32/ to write the image to a USB stick - you may need to try several sticks - I found an old 256MB one worked well) fixed it.

How many times have you run the memory test... I would suggest 3-5.
