ReadyNas NV stuck while botting

I got a ReadyNas NV that does not boot properly most of the time.

When I press the power button seems to start up. However, after few seconds it stops the process. The HD leds do not light up and the RAIDar does not find it. The only led lit is the power button.

I try to switch it off to boot it again but the power button does not respond. Thus, I have to unplug the socket and try again.

Usually after 2-3 trials it starts up properly... I can see the HD leds flashing and eventually showing up in my iMac.

Anyone has been across a similar problem? Any idea why it does that?

Thanks a lot!!

Do you have an up to date backup? If not, please make sure that your backup is up to date.

Is your serial number in this range?: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=54911

Re: ReadyNas NV stuck while botting

Wow... I think so. It is 000DA201185A. I guess I will have to follow those steps...

Backup? Nope... to be honest the ReadyNas NV is the backup.

Do you think this situation is likely to end up with a non working ReadyNas NV? That's scary....

Thanks for your help!

Re: ReadyNas NV stuck while botting

If important data is primarily stored on the NV you should backup that data.

It sounds like the PSU in your NV may be failing. I would suggest you contact NetGear requesting a replacement PSU. Be sure to mention the Service Action.

Re: ReadyNas NV stuck while botting

Ok. I am a bit of a newbie... where can I contact NetGear for a replacement? In the 'Online Submission' link you got in your signature?

And, when you say that I should mention the 'Service Action'. Would it mean that the replacement would be for free?

OK, I will do the backup now as you said.
However, in case the unit fails. Is it possible to place one of the HD into a external HD case and extract the data. Or it wouldn't be read by the computer?

Thanks indeed!

ReadyNAS uses linux formatting which Windows systems don't understand. Also if you are using 3 or more disks with xraid or raid-5, then you can't extract the data from any single drive - the data is spread over multiple drives.

Re: ReadyNas NV stuck while botting

I am sorry to continue with this post after all this time. However, I have not been able to get a replacement for my ReadyNas NV.

I bought it some time ago from the second owner. And the NetGear replacement service told me that they do not give a damn when you are not the first. So, although the NetGear site states that is a factory problem and they fix the device for free... they won't do mine.

Now I ask, what is easier? Take them to court or fix it myself? Does anyone have any experience in any of the cases?

Thanks

Re: ReadyNas NV stuck while botting

Replacement PSUs are getting very hard to find, though googling does find some hits: http://www.sjtelecommunications.com/net ... 0000s.html

It is possible to modify a standard ATX PSU to work with the NAS, there is information here: http://www.readynas.com/download/archiv ... pinout.pdf I have not attempted to do this myself.

AFAIK the ReadyNAS warranty is not transferable. Though perhaps a Netgear person can confirm that the service action is only available to the original owner. That does seem a bit off.
