ReadyNas media and iTunes

Hi,

I have my media stored on a single share on my ReadyNas Duov2:

/media/Music

/media/Videos

I have mounted this as a drive in Windows, allowing iTunes to access my media and then manage it on my i-devices.

This works well except iTunes reorganises my media for me. Not a big problem, and quite useful in some respects, but if I then try to access my media from eg my Samsung TV, the media is all jumbled and not in one single place. (iTunes creates a "Movies", "Hom,e Movies" etc folders under the Music folder)

Not an issue I think as I create symbolic link to "Videos" called "Movies" and "Home Movies" etc BUT Windows cannot read these folders, so iTunes cannot then manage them in turn.

Can anyone think of a solution/way I can repermission these links or reorganise to allow the organised media and cater for iTunes?

Many thanks!

Chris

Re: ReadyNas media and iTunes

iTunes isn't creating new folders. or moving your media files - it is simply creating assigning those categories to each media file in its database.  At least it doesn't move my media files around...

You can tell it the category you want by right-clicking on the media in iTunes and clicking "get info".  Then choose "options" and you will find a "media kind" pulldown where you can set it.

How is the Samsung accessing the media?  If it is using ReadyDLNA, then iTunes has nothing to do with it.

Re: ReadyNas media and iTunes

Hey thanks for the reply!

Samsung is using the ReadyDLNA, although I find that I have to regularly reboot for the Samsung to stay refreshed - for some reason the DLNA doesn't seem to refresh regularly (eg every 5/10/30 mins). Also get som contention between Samsung and Sony TVs which will also work but seem to be mutually exclusive and require a reboot between accessing them.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris
