USB Backup - Error copying from Source Path Read Only

Hi

We're using a ReadyNAS Duo with mirrored 1Tb discs to hold backups of our VMWare machines. We used to backup the NAS to a 1Tb USB disc each day using the built in Frontview backup system to copy the entire C drive of the NAS to the USB disc on the front port. This has worked perfectly for the first 12 months but recently has started failing every time with "Error encountered copying data from source path ==> /USB_HDD_10/ due to unknown reason". We've tried different USB discs, moving to the rear port, wiping the NAS to Factory Default and recreating the entire system, wiping out the RAID-1 volume etc all with the same result. We've tried formatting the USB discs as EXT3 and NTFS again both with the same result and all the discs have been confirmed working with a large data transfer on a PC. If you use the backup system to copy a small amount of data in the backup then it works OK. The NAS is using the latest firmware but we've reinstalled it anyway without problems. The logs are showing an error "Read-only file system" but the disc can be written to for small amounts of data so not sure if this is mis-leading and can't find any more information about the problem on-line. Would therefore gratefully welcome any advice on this. I have the latest logs if you'd like me to send attach?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: USB Backup - Error copying from Source Path Read Only

Hi

Does anyone have any ideas about this please other than chuck it in the skip and get a QNAP?

Thanks

Andy.

Skip it is then. So much for Netgear "don't worry about not having any support with the unit our technicians answer all queries on the forum". This is the last Netgear NAS we sell, QNAP all the way for us now. Cheaper, better and with support which actually answers queries!!
