Will an upgrade to 6.0.5 fix Genie (torrent client install)

Hello, I have had my ReadyNAS 102 for a month or so now. I've had some good support on this forum so far re my iTunes Server problem. :D

I would like to install a torrent client, but I am not sure if they are available for the RN102.
At the moment I cannot get Genie to work (firmware 6.0.4) so I cannot browse available Applications.

Is it worthwhile upgrading to firmware 6.0.5 - is Genie fixed? If not, is there any other way to install a torrent client?

I'm an experienced PC user and generally technically savvy, but I've had no experience of SSH. If using SSH is the route for software installs, I would need an SSH walkthrough and a hyperlink for the torrent client.

Many thanks, :)

  • Ok, I was brave an upgraded to firmware version 6.0.5.
No issues with the upgrade process and it was complete within a minute.
Now I can see a new option to upload an Application from a file.

I can see posts in the forum where qBittorrent is known to work on firmware 6.0.5.
I've learned the ReadyNAS runs on the Debian v.7.0 Linux distro...

This is all new to me its amazing what you can find out with google and some first time use of SSH!

I've found the developer website (http://www.qbittorrent.org)
However, I still cannot find the download link for the correct binary

Anyone got this for me? :)
    Thanks,

  • I've managed to get Transmission 6 installed as per the instructions on page 1 of this thread

Many thanks to the contributors on that thread.

I can see the Transmission icon under the Apps area of the admin pages. Now I just need to know how I access the application!
I've tried http://ipaddressofnas:8181 and various other ports I have found in other threads but no joy.

Do I need to install Transmission remote client to actually download torrent files to the NAS?

    Thanks,
