ftp questions - setting up secure ?
Hello,
I have a ready as 102 that I have my work in a password secured dir(share) and also some free access dirs.I am thinking if it is a goog idea to setup an ftp or ftps from access over wan.
I hear many security problems with ftp and here I need your help.
1. What problems I might have with the ftp or ftps? Someone may steal the contents (that I do not care) or perhaps I will loose the contents in case of attack?
2. If I set up an ftp for the free shares , will all other protected shares that do not have set up for wan ftp are in danger?( what is danger? Again ,someone might steal something or make damage to my files?)
The reason for the ftp is that from time to time I need something from my work and this seems a good idea if I want to send something to a friend.
Please correct me if I am wrong
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: ftp questions - setting up secure ?
FTPS is encrypted, and should be secure.
Normal FTP access requires the password, but is not encrypted.
I have never attempted to enforce FTPS, but my client (Filezilla) is configured to use it with the NAS.

Re: ftp questions - setting up secure ?
The server already will accept either FTP or FTPS.
With FileZIlla you simply set "encryption" to "require explicit FTP over TLS".
