mapped network drive disconnecting
Hi, I'm using a new readynas ultra 4 with 4x1tb HDD, i have some problem with mapped drive on windows.
I create a public share and works correctly, under windows XP I map the share and works ok,
but after some time (random few minutes to 30 minutes) the mapped drive disconnects and i have to reopen manually through explorer to
access again to the share.
I have a program running that periodically move some file to the share and when the mapped drive is disconnected fails the operation.
If i open the share manually (sometime after 1 attempt and sometime after 3 or 4 attempts) the drive reconnect and the everything works.
I have tried to set the autodisconnect time to 2 hours with
always after (5-15 minutes) the mapped drive disconnects
I have another mapped drive (to a windows pc) that works perfectly so i exclude some network error
There is some configuration i have to do in readynas?
I'm running last firmware RAIDatior 4.2.17
thank you to all

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertCan you change your program to move a file every minute and see if that has any effect?
- GiulioAspirantI cannot change my program because the file to move are created with no fixed timing.
but i tried to manually copy a file (with a batch xcopy command) to the mapped drive every minute for 15 minutes and works ok the drive remains connected
another test copying a file every 2 minutes at the 6th attempt the copy fail, the drive is disconnected
another test copying a file every 3 minutes and 11 attempts pass successfully
another test copying a file every 5 minutes and 5 attempts pass successfully
so i cannot understand where is the problem
there is some configuration in readynas to set some kind of timeout or not?
as described in the previous post before buying the readynas i used a normal windows pc as "nas"
and the mapped drive never disconnect - ewokNETGEAR ExpertI'd suggest contacting support and seeing if they've dealt with any similar issues.
- eea123AspirantCurious as well, our ReadyNAS Duo 2000 exhibits similar problems at times. I'm running Win 7 (32bit) and see it rebuild the "buffer" when I get a lost connection. Our XP machine losses it at times as well (haven't logged it to see if they're happening at the same time though). So far nothing a double click on the mapped drive icon doesn't fix, but I can understand the need for the application to see a valid mapping. I'm also running Windows Backup from my local to the NAS once a week and haven't seen that fail yet.
So far that has been our only real complaint with the ReadyNAS Duo. I have checked the FrontView to insure the unit is NOT going into a scheduled power down / idle mode. I wonder if the "green" Seagate drives are doing it through bios mode though? They are two 1Tb Seagate ST31000528AS set for RAID level 1 (or X-RAID). - eea123AspirantI just added NoSMBDisconnect and haven't seen this issue. From what I read, this is by design so the device can be used in higher user environments.
